Not Sure How To Change Encryption From WEP To WPA

Hi, This is my first post to forums, I'm fairly new to computers
and I only know the basics of Wireless Security.
My router (HUAWEI Echolife HG520s) at present is configured
for WEP but I would like to change it to WPA-PSK. I have tried
to do this once or twice before but with no success, I'm not
sure whether the problem is that the computer's wi-fi adapter
card is not recognising the router's new WPA setting or what,
or, do I need to switch off the WLAN, plug in the ethernet
cable and configure the router in the LAN setting?
Incidentally, OS is Vista Home Premium SP2. Please forgive
my ignorance but I would appreciate any help anyone can
offer me.

According to internet your router indeed does support WPA-PSK so the problem should not be there.
Few HOW-TOs can be found, one is here »www.talktalk.co.uk/help/broadban···ter.html

However, older wireless adapters do not support WPA, some need newer firmware or drivers. ...post your wireless card model driver details (check though Device Manager).

Hi Brano,
Many thanks for your reply. My ISP is actually TalkTalk and I have searched the forums but there doesn't seem to be any answers re: changing to WPA when already configured for WEP but I will check on the link you provided.
My laptop is Dell and the wireless card model driver details are; Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card, vers.4.170.25.17. The laptop is an Inspiron 1520 and is approximately 2 1/2 years old.
Once again, I appreciate your time and help.

Check this thread »en.community.dell.com/support-fo···013.aspx

Looks like the card has issues. My suggestions
1) Update the card's driver to the latest version
2) Try WPA2 on the router
3) Call Dell

Dont worry about changing it. Unless you are being hacked and having problems, dont stress about it. I for one like piggy backing on people like you. So dont be afraid!
