 | SBV5220 autp reset skyp Hi All,
I love my speeds and connection is pretty solid unless I skype. Then my phone goes out, internet drops and I tied this back to my modem resetting. I am about 5 calls into comcast and they say its probably not them but if they can't figure it out it must be on my side and I will be charged a service fee. I was running skype on my laptop via wireless. Knowing that it will be blamed on my wireless connection and or my router or the stars and the moon not at the correct alignment I connected my computer direct to the modem and the same thing happens. Anyone have an idea of what to do? I keep getting told by Comcast all is well and its all skyps fault, that its my job to do a trace route which I have no idea how to do even though I am somewhat experienced with computers. HELP!!!! |

| I cant be much help on this one and im sure someone will come along more familiar. 192.168.100.1. type into your browser and look for signal levels. I think i remember where some people were having issues with the phone adapters. Have you called skype. Never used them but i think ive seen where people had to put the adapter before the router and not after. Never made sense to me but the people said skype guided them that way. |

 | reply to TomR1972 I just had the tech come out and he felt the best attempted to fix is to change the modem out. I felt the same way and I now have an arris modem. 2 days in and skype has not reset my modem, so things are looking up. However I just tried to setup my fax machine and I see that comcast recommends you pay for a 2nd line just to fax, which is not worth paying for a 2nd line. Anyone have an experience with that? |

1 edit | It will work fine. They recommend the second line because most people don't understand that they have to be at the machine to receive a fax. You need to turn the auto answer off so you can still get voice calls without the machine picking up. Hard for a lot to understand. Plus they make basic second line packages that are like $10 a month.
Just use the Phone jumper that came with the fax machine. It only should have the Ring and Tip (red/green) in the center pin locations and the outer pins should not be connected. Otherwise, you will cause yourself all kinds of issues.
