| NSA plans massive, 65MW, $2bn data center in Utah
When completed, the facility will require at least 65 megawatts of power and cost $1.93bn, according to news reports. The 120-acre data center will be located in Utah's Camp Williams, which borders Salt Lake and Tooele counties. Two major power corridors already run through the spot, a major reason the NSA chose it.
The articles came around the same time The Washington Post reported that the Obama administration will proceed with a Bush-era plan to use NSA assistance is screening government computer traffic on private-sector networks. The plan is controversial because of the NSA's involvement in warrantless wiretapping of US citizens. »www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07/03···_center/
Wow, a 120-acre data center for collection of data and just to power the beast it will take 65MW but the real question is what kind of information will our government be collecting. -- "Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes" |

»Obama Using NSA, AT&T For New Snooping Project
Some how I doubt that but you know it would make a good cover story just like they used to say the ATT hidden NSA rooms didn't exist until it was exposed by a NSA employee tice that they were indeed spying on your pizza purchases as well.. -- "Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes" |

Anyone know if this will this be underground? I wouldn't think they would build something of this nature above ground..but putting it below ground would cost some major bucks for 120acres of space. |

So a tree branch falling on a power line can now knock out two corridors not just one. Or if this data center has a real problem it can knock down two corridors.
Also what about internet is Salt lake connected or will all my ping times increase playing games on the net. Plus will my VOIP phone now have an echo again with latency. |

Sure 120 acres two major power connects who knows how many internet connections even if most are fiber someone will bring in copper for something. One nice big electromagnetic pulse will find the design flaw where ever it is. |

Well you could say they will engage in cyber warfare and were even happy enough to hire Dark Tangent for use at the DHS but as far as the activities he will play a role in will be hush hush.
The NSA has been spying since day 1 and I'm sure people would like to believe this was much shorter but the real truth of the matter is your data is needed for various reasons and this is why they must know your tv viewing habits and other warehouses and spying on your phone, email and how they can even ask your neighbor for your census data.
The grid has been in place for a long time including how they can tap into your cell phone and listen in on you and your family to even the gps enabled on your phone. I think we have been exposed to a few things we know about for sure and people are not to happy about it.
More will be coming and you can count on it... -- "Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes" |

LoL...it takes something this hugh just to Store the information that they have ALREADY collected over the past fifteen years or so.
Interesting that its being built in Utah which is said to be less likely "hit" by a Nuke..........LoL, ok, so the population will be gone....but they sure will still have all that information......LoL. |

Mormons= Most obviously retaining more on new suckers.
I know one service a lot of people forget about is the internet archive that holds a wealth of former web pages but information is power and our government knows more about us then we even do but the biggest problem is labeling us all the terrorist's and manipulating our constitutional rights.
How many times have we heard this is all for the protection of the children...

| reply to FunnyBones So they know my TV habits. No more 24 hour porn now that I am married and have a child. Now its Dora the Explorer and Wow Wow Wuzzby. Now if they can predict if my wife is running with or without horns on a certain day that would be something. Unless you live your life underground or hide who you really are people see you. For instance two employees at my work. One was arrested for violence another child molestation. Ok, large company lots of workers. The violent one we say his personality and adjusted for it. The child one well no proof but he talked odd and well no real friendly coworkers. Without any monitoring or data track we saw who they are. Any coworker my friends or anyone who cares that talks to me has a decent idea who I am and what I think. Even when I am not thinking and boring as a door knob. Only thing data tracking does for me is make sure I do not put anything in writing I do not want in writing. What is dangerous is th thought pattern reinforced by it. Oh so and so thinks this way now we have proof. Jail or mental hospital for them with no crime committed yet. We have it thru data mining. It is a crime now. Well before you knew the person and had to wait for the crime. Know we have proof how they think in data. Not just how they act or what they say. Then we allow or get whipped into allowing government to decide what thinking is right and what is wrong. My thinking is still good never will happen to me. They are bad thinkers and the government has the data to prove it. The say the sky is blue when the government and I know it is yellow. I think right like my government says they think wrong. I would never think wrong. There are just too many that can not think for themselves. Then others who do think but still just do as they are told. They take the easy road. |

I agree thought crimes are nothing new this is basically what they want a full fledged tracking system with behavioral monitoring to see if you're the kind of person who will act out against our criminally insane government.
We haven't reached the same level as the UK but if you want to see the future all you need to do is look how the system is moving away from standard forms of security and moving to a new global system electronically with id schemes, CCTV, etc.
I think about it even the changes on the internet and how a lot of people warned for a long time we would have internet2 and essentially we will have it as soon as they reveal IPV6 is the way to go.
The sad fact is this system took a lot of time to reach us here and now but a lot of people don't realize they have been dumbed down by saying hey check out this new cell phone that almost never runs out of power but oh yeah the NSA is going to be eavesdropping on that baby. This is how they get you hook line and sinker.
