Not exactly sure what your question is...but you're free to use whatever email you like.

Yahoo is my main email service.
It works quite well using Comcast HSI.
I also have...
Comcast(obviously)
Hotmail
Lycos
NetZero
AOL
Walla
Gmail

All work fine with Comcast as the ISP.

What happens when you try? Assuming you are accessing those services using web mail, the email will leave their servers, and will not traverse the Comcast network, unless another Comcast user is your recipient. Since you can apparently access those sites from Comcast, and even compose the email, it doesn't appear that you have a Comcast problem.

greenie900 - what brower and operating system are you using. I use about 6 mail services (gmail, netzero etc.) with no problems with Win XP or Linux. Browsers - both IE and Firefox.

I will have to ask Dadkins about Opera (my fav, only Comcast.net doesn't seem to play well with it.)

Opera 9.64 working fine with the new comcast.net.
Doesn't seem to like email though.

Yes Dadkins I should have been more specific - I can login and get to billing etc. But click on email and all I get (in Opera) is a blue box telling me it's loading something - no internet activity, no email. I really like gmail so I don't really care all that much.

Your email from the other sites does not use Comcast POP/SMTP mail servers. Your mail comes/goes via the web.

Email is a "store and forward" delivery system. You, the end user, upload email to the service, then the service forwards the email to the destination.

When you use a web mail service, such as Gmail, or Hotmail, or Yahoo!, you access the email service via an HTTP link between your connection and the service. As a Comcast customer, that HTTP link is the only part of the email delivery which goes out through Comcast transit. And it is using the HTTP protocol to get to the email servers.

Once your email has been uploaded via the browser, the email service transfers the email from the web site to their SMTP servers. From there, it travels on their transit network (Gmail, Windows Live (Hotmail) and Yahoo! all have their own transit networks) to the domain gateway (MX) mail server of the recipient's email service.

So, if you can reach the web mail servers, and upload the email, the transit from Comcast to the service is working properly; there is nothing for Comcast to fix. If the email fails delivery from Gmail, or Hotmail, or Yahoo!, to the destination, the trouble is with the service (Gmail, or Hotmail, or Yahoo!), not with Comcast.
