Wow talk about intrusive ads & desperate for ratings

I was watching TLC and a pop up ad in the bottom left corner of my screen came up for MTV's show "She really going out with him?" it was like some animated thing stayed there for about 10 seconds then went away.

Any idea why it's showing up? Is that from Comcast?

Advertising overlays are going to be a new form of advertising, immune from commercial avoidance that regular commercial breaks suffer from. Up until now, overlays have just been used to advertise other programming on the same channel, but I've recently seen overlays used for other types of advertising, even for an online search engine.

This is just a vent about the subject to no one in particular unless you're a broadcaster using overlays...

As I've already written to a few channels, such as the History channel - if you ruin the show I've elected to watch by displaying a stupid overlay, I will change the channel and it will take a lot for me to switch back. It will definitely not entice me to watch or buy whatever you're peddling in the overlay - just the opposite. Remember the Axemen overlay's on the History channel? Never have seen an episode of Axeman to this day.

There is a small share that Viacom has with Liberty, same with Time Warner & Viacom. It is getting to the point that if Viacom/Disney can get their hands on it, they are going for it.

Great now I have to go through the whole "who owns what" routine again.

He still has an interest. Key, the "Time Warner Inc. - Turner Entertainment"

Channel based TV, that is a distinct possibility.

The Braves was sold in its entirety by T-W to Liberty in a stock swap deal in 2007. So currently Ted Turner has no ownership of the Braves at all.

Speaking of online search engines, aren't those commercials for the new Bing.com search engine annoying or what?

Got your attention, and that's the point. If people were actually turned off by being annoyed, instead of being attracted, then advertisers wouldn't use that mechanism.

Just wait, MS is spending $100 million over the next 3 years to promote Bing!
