One-time Fees HDTV $34.20 Starter Promo Install $29.30 Performance Promo Pro Instal $29.95 DVR $34.20
One-time Fees Total $127.65
I can't believe what I'm seeing. I'm moving into a pre-wired apartment complex, getting one modem and one cable box and I have to pay for 4 install fees?
Can they not flip a switch and I come by and pick up the 2 pieces of equipment? Or just charge me 1 fee to come by and drop it off? I mean, come on, HD install fee? lol |

| reply to bryn987 If it was a previously serviceable apartment then you should be elidgible for a self install which would only cost the normal tech visit fee, which is $24.95 in my area. That basically just covers the tech coming out and making sure the cable is hooked up outside. |

| reply to bryn987 The fees are usually less the more services you get. With just internet and TV they tag on more fees than the triple play. The triple play was $99 with a $29.99 fee to activate the voice line and $29.99 connect fee. They waived the $99 fee for me. It does cost them money to send someone out there and like you I live in pre-wired building. They need to physically come on site to go to a utility room and connect your apartment to cable. They physically disconnect it when the previous tenant leaves to make sure no one can get free cable. Also, in my building Comcast, RCN and Fios all use the same coax so it is likely that it will be disconnected for another providers service. Even if you don't have that, they will disconnect it to keep people from stealing cable. |

1 edit | reply to bryn987 Those fees are rediculous. I moved into an apt they charged something like $25 to come out and hook up my apartment at the locked box in the back of the building. I got digital cable with a DVR. The guy even installed a new outlet on the other side of the main room since I had an attic access panel in my closet. Custom length cut wires and all with the really nice tight compression fittings that quality tools produce.
Heck when I downgrade during the summer, I turn in the DVR box at my local office, and they only charged $2 for a change of service fee, and they had to come out sometime and put a trap on my line to filter out expanded basic channels(sometime during the day, don't need to enter my apt)
You should only be paying somewhere around $30 or so for an install. If they really won't, ask them if you really have to tell them to just bring a plain 10 year old digital cable box out to save $ on the install fees, then go to the office yourself the next day(or 30 minutes after the install) and swap that box for a DVR? They'll be getting the same amount of money from you for monthly services, and you'll dislike them a whole lot less, if they would just bring a DVR box out for the install. |

They love replacing WidOpenWest Cable. Its internal wiring is perfect. --

Goober Premium join:2000-12-17 Naperville, IL | I hope mine goes well today. My wiring is good (WOW did it initially (what a pain that was)), but I've really messed around with the wiring by adding many devices, splitters and amps since it's a MoCA environment now. |

Why would you ever charge install fees when your competitors charge $0?
Fastest way to throw away costumer relationships and retention is to piss them off even before they had a chance to flip on the TV. |

Call and say you are considering satellite in your new place. Say there are zero install fees. They will usually waive them.
