| Bad DVR?
During the past month or so I'll be watching the DVR and all of a sudden the AV receiver will lose the signal and then get it again. So I'll have a dead screen with no sound for maybe 5 seconds. If I rewind and play it again, it will be fine. I don't recall it happening with "live" tv, only recorded.
I've got the DVR hooked up via HDMI to the AV receiver and then that hooked up via HDMI to the TV. I also have a blu-ray player hooked up to the AV receiver and never had a drop out with it.
I put a new HDMI cable between the DVR and AV receiver but I got the drop out again.
So what causes this? |

| reply to tcwatkins The same thing has happened to my DVR. At first I thought that it was my TV, but the blackout only happens when I'm watching the DVR. I am using component cables from the DVR to the reciever and HDMI from the receiver to the TV. Time for a new DVR? |

The 6xxx series boxes exhibit fewer HDMI issues than the 7xxx series. |

So if it's component from the STB to the receiver, and HDMI from the recevier to the TV, it's an STB HDMI issue? Strange... |

That would be a HDMI interoperability issue between your receiver and your TV. The STB would not be a factor. |

| I had this problem a few months ago - the video just dropped at random times, but the sound was OK . After I got a new DVR, the problem went away.
It could be a timing problem between your exact TV and that exact DVR (just a guess). If they both "meet spec", then there's no problem. If either one is on the hairy edge of spec, then it might stop working intermittently.
Until they fix the firmware, I'd try a new DVR. Maybe you'll have better luck. |

I have had a 6xxx box for over 2 years and never had a problem until a few months back, all with the original set-up. The only differnce was I added a STB and software to use the DVR on that STB. But I guess I'll just wait until they get a bigger HD to complain about it. |
