| Pause to give thanks

Happy Memorial Day - a day to remember and give thanks to the men and women who have died in the line of duty.
So what is everyone doing this long weekend? I'm going to a BBQ tomorrow where there will be great food and great company. -- TH ~ NE ~ EPN ~ NC ~ TD |

2 edits | My sister is having a big BBQ with a bunch of friends and family. It is supposed to be absolutely gorgious weather for it.
Guess what I am doing??? . . . . . . . &%$*ing WORKING ALL DAY!!!!

I may or may not get an hour or so off between shifts like I have right now, but hardly time to go enjoy anything.
Oh well. Thats the price I have to pay.
Edit add: This morning before I went to work I put flowers on my grandparents grave as I do every Memorial Day. |

| reply to sashwa Catching up on my backyard planting and laundry. Also helping an 82+ y.o. who fell last week, and is tied up in physical rehab because he fractured his hip and broke his wrist. Tuesday is evaluation to set the parameters for release home. Checklist has a few things on it.
Building a wheelchair ramp so he has access in and out of home. Almost ADA-compliant, but certainly acceptable if an able-bodied person is driving.
The missus says it's definitely over-engineered. I just want it to feel solid. In construction safety, OSHA specifies something has to be rated 2 or 3 or 4X its "intended load". I'll give the hand rails a "running jump test" to see if it holds up.
Spent 2 hours mowing his lawn on a riding mower that felt like a Cadillac to me, but then again, it's been 40 years since I used a riding mower. He says it's a rough ride, so what do I know?
Raymond was in WW2 as a medic in Germany. He doesn't talk much about it. I haven't figured out if he's a Swamp Yankee or what.
While he was in the hospital, they wanted to hook him up to a heart monitor, but by the time they got back to the desk, it went into alarm. About 3 times. He had his good hand under the covers. Hmmm. Wonder if that was a coincidence.
Then there was the episode where he rang for something, and they didn't respond very fast. When he said something about chest pains, they cooked his goose. Down to wherever to get x-rays or something. He calmed down some of his shenanigans after that.
Those last two items I got second-hand, so I don't know where the fact separates from fiction, but knowing Raymond, he could have just been bored and wanted to see what he could stir up.
Tomorrow, I'll finish the ramp and go visit him in the nursing home. |

| reply to sashwa I went down this morning to take some pictures I've wanted for a while (not of the ceremonies but I needed no traffic), observed the ceremony across the street, and this afternoon I've got a massage scheduled -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."
