| Qwest Ultimate DSL?
Qwest mentions an Ultimate DSL service in its price for life disclaimer. Does anyone know anything about this? it is listed after Quantum, so I assume it is even faster.

@cox.net | reply to Anonomess Thanks for the replies. It is wierd they have it in their disclaimer but no where else on their site that I can find. I wonder if and when it will come to Phoenix. Does anyone have a link with more specifics such as cost? |

| reply to Anonomess In addition to the above, I see mentioned on Qwest's site: "The Ultimate Qwest Bundle for staying connected and entertained •Local Phone Service Unlimited Long Distance •Qwest DSL •DIRECTV® Service" »qwestonlineoffers.com/
So an "Ultimate" subscriber mentioned may be someone doing the above bundled deal. -- I'm not a tax dodger, I'm a potential cabinet appointee! |

| reply to Anonomess Does it use some of the same hardware as ADSL2 rollout that is going on? Or is it another start from scratch? I just can not see the profitability if it is an entirely new rollout. Plus if it is them some still stuck at 1.5, some the new adsl2 at up to 20, then a third rollout with new hardware at up to 40. |

| reply to Anonomess I'm an employee of Qwest and am in the sales and service department. I can confirm with you that yes, Qwest is coming out with 40 M down. They have already began 'testing' the lines in certain areas of Colorado. the price that shows on my computer at work is 115 a month. That obviously will come down considerably in the future. Hope that helped... |

| What would be the upload speed? It should be at least 1mbps to be useful for the price. 40mbps down with 0.8mbps up will be a big joke and has very little value. Quest could make several tiers for upload speads, says 0.8mbps, 1mbps, 2mbps, and etc. with appropriate pricing. This would be a lot better than forcing everyone to live with the given upload speed. |

I'm happy with my 7M service on the d/l side, but the 72Kb/s upload is killing me.
And that's just upping a 96Mb video to Youtube. Ugh. |

See why competition is needed, most areas are still at 1.5 Mbps, and will be the foreseeable future. |

Pretty sure that's not true.
I live in a city of 250K and have had 1.5 or better for yrs. If ya live in a rural area, well, you get what ya get.
It's much more cost-effective to build up a CO with a card to give a higher tier with higher rates than run new line so people who choose not to live in a city can have basic broadband Internet. It's not a right, and Money is the game.
Yes, some new areas don't have hi-speed either, but thats urban sprawl for ya...telcos can't keep up. --

My area, which is a residential area that makes up part of that 209K population, can only get 1.5mbps. My area is served from a CO DSLAM. So 1.5 is definately not limited to only "rural areas". |

I didn't say most urban areas.
If they offered anything above 1.5Mbps from their remote terminals, that would be great. My modem says I can get 10 Mbps, but thats just what my line can support from the house to the RT.
Most areas, yep. |

| I believe this is what everyone's talking about as far as the new VDSL2 product goes:
»/forum/r225037···ing-soon
40/20 for $110, 12/5 for $52. Plus I assume $5-$10 if you want dry-line.
I'll bet coverage will be rather sucky at first; the ADSL2+ deployment has loop lengths that are still too long for VDSL. Specifically the 40 Mbit tier, at least to my knowledge. But for people who can get the service the lower tiers will givecable a run for its money, and the Ultimate tier is in FTTH territory for speeds, with uploads that cable can't match. |
