| Using DIR-615 C1/3.01 with Trendnet TEW-652BRP in N Mode
Well I've flashed it and now have DIR-615 C1 3.01 firmware running on a brand new Trendnet TEW-652BRP. The only reason why I had flash this firmware over the Trendnet basic firmware and I mean real basic that's why. I use this as a secondary Wireless N Access Point. These were cheap end of last month around $25 with free shipping. If they go on sale again I'll get another one for upstairs.

Specs: seem the same for C1 version of DIR-615 though.. That blows away the DIR-655, DIR-825, CPUs and RAM
AR9132 - CPU 400MHz +32MB of RAM non-gigabyte ports though, but I am not using it for gigabyte anyway.
N link rate 150mbps - in the router under DLINK it reads 130M 40% There seem to be a lot more features than in the DIR-655 A3 1.11 though mostly more security features for Vista.
Anyway I'll test this some more see how it goes. Until the DD-WRT folks can come with there firmware. |

| Interesting! I believe most folks and myself would understand your post better if you use plain English. No offense really. Perhaps you were rushing to get the message out.
1) Why did you flash the firmware of DI-615 into that of Trendnet model, i.e. what are the features lacking in TEW-652 BRP as compared to DLink models?
2) TEW-652BRP looks exactly like TEW-632BRP. Are they the same?
Would appreciate your reply.

Firmware on the unit is basic. DIR-615 C1 hardware and 3.01 firmware works with this unit. It was easy to flash the unit to a DIR-615 firmware. Goal was to use some of the features you find on DIR series.

I am still testing I did like the Trendnet firmware I think that was a bit quicker in performance. |

2 edits | reply to tipstir Got some wows here with this hardware and DIR-615 C1/3.01.
I did some testing to compare it against DIR-655.
Each Wireless N Laptop is set to WP2 encryption.
DIR-655 A3/1.11 276MHz 16MB/4MB Shows wireless status as 160M for each laptop some show excellent 5 bars under SP3 link speed is 120mb/s for each one. Some have very good but the link speed is fro 65 to 120mb/s.
DIR-615 C1/3.01 400MHz 32MB/4MB(a.k.a name TEW-652BRP) Shows wireless status as 130M for each laptop all show excellent 5 bars under SP3 link speed is 130-150mb/s Once this does work performance over the wireless is quicker than DIR-655, well to me it is wireless not wired now as it only has 10/100 ports |

The two Trendnets you note are also very similar. Details over on the OpenWRT thread: »forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=79983 |

DIR-615 C1 3.01 on TEW-652BRP
Okay if you re-mod to a DIR-615 C1 3.01 and have issues you can re-mod back to TEW-652BRP.
Here's the change to DIR-615 C1 3.01 »www.savefile.com/files/1981625
Here's the recovery to TEW-652BRP (1.10.8) »www.savefile.com/files/1981641
If you have issues like disconnections from DIR-615 firmware you might what to go back to the TEW-652BRP firmware. You can't use the latest, but you can use the above then flash a newest version later.
As of 1/26/09 Newegg has TEW-652BRP for $24.99 + free shipping limit 5 per order. Now everyone might not have issues re-modding or not.
OpenWRT has firmware for TEW-652BRP so you might want to go and check that one out also.
Good luck! |

Another possible option is to use Atheros driver from www.atheros.cz. Try 32-bit INF file for Atheros AR-9281 driver version 7.6.0.239 (156 KB, file name xp3264-7.6.0.239 whql.zip). Atheros drivers tend to be better and more stable than most stock DLink drivers, in my experience. |

1 edit | reply to taytong888 Doesn't do me any good my Wireless N cards are all Trendnet they use Realtek chipset for wireless and I use Realtek chipset for Gig cards and the DIR-655 A3 router uses Realtek Gig chipset. Now with the DIR-655 A3 using Wireless N only these cards works perfect! |

| DIR-615 Hardware C1 same as TEW-652BRP 1.0R Hardware
400MHz 32MB of RAM 4MB of Flash (some talk it has 8MB)
You can open them up or go to the FCC site and check to see what's inside them. Remember to use the correct mod with your device otherwise you're brick the device making it not work anymore. |

2 edits | How to restore the firmware from DIR-615 C1/3.01 to TEW-652BRP
Here's the recovery to TEW-652BRP (1.10.8) »www.savefile.com/files/1981641
I recommend you set your wired NIC to 10 half Disable all software firewall, antivirus, spyware etc.. You don't want anything running in the background. Use a Ethernet LAN from your desktop/laptop to the router
1. unplug the router 2. press the reset button for 40 seconds 3. keep pressing the reset button and plug in the power cord 4. Release the reset button 5. open the browser try default 192.168.0.1
This is the recovery mode just point it to your folder where you unzip the 1.10.8.bin for the router.
Now just update it.. If you get an error then redo it again.
Now after that wait 3 minutes then unplug the unit for 1 minute. Now plug in the power then press reset for 30 seconds. The status light should show up now. If that status light flashes with the WLAN then you're okay and welcome back to Trendnet firmware again.
Now go back to the browser set the it to 192.168.10.1

Just to let you know this is working just find in Wireless Access N mode. I found the issue with disconnections I am trying it out now. I also going to run another test. After 4 hours no disconnections prior it wouldn't last not even hour before it would disconnect or drop internet access. Might be hope for this little Wireless N router. |

1 edit | reply to tipstir Testing using Trendnet 1.0R/1.10.8
Tested for all day yesterday not one disconnection or lost of the internet. Great! Now the real test is to use Auto 20/40Hz in a Mix mode of G/N.
This way all Wireless N would be 150mbps link speed (130M) All Wireless G would be 54mbps link speed (30M)
Note: In this test the DIR-655 Wireless ANT is shutdown and disabled. |

I am confused by the note at the bottom of your post. Are you running the tests on Trendnet TEW-652BRP OR Dlink DIR-655? |

| Yes I see the confusion.. It's the Trendnet TEW-652BRP v1.0R/1.10.8 is what I've been testing since yesterday. Now earlier today I was testing it only in the house for G/N.
G/N mix mode Auto 20/40Hz Channel 6 (default) I've tried other channels but this one ok
See next post of how it's positioned now.. |
