Terrible Speeds, Brooklyn NY

Click for full size
I really don't know what to say. OOL has just gone to .... over the last few years. It is really starting to get frustrating when you can't even download a video that use to take 10 seconds and now it takes 30 mins..

Download Speed: 1304 kbps (163 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1991 kbps (248.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

The Max I got on Test64 was 256kb which is still unacceptable.

How are my signals. This is the one area I am clueless about..

Me too. It's been up and down since around the 3rd week of December. I'm on Boost though. My speed will vary from 29,000kbps to 2,000kbps down. There's no obvious pattern to it. Cablevision has been here numerous times. Each with a "higher level" tech. They've confirmed it's nothing on my end. They've witnessed the speed fluctuation. They've made no discernible changes though.

You should post your zipcode. I'm 11237.

Make sure you run your speed tests wired straight from modem sans any router.

Cablevision at first thought it was a noise issue but they've said if you're above 30 db that shouldn't be an issue. I'm usually close to 40 db. Your power levels seem close to mine.

I am in 11228. I have a friend over in 11219 and Cablevision told him to change his modem. He still has the same issues that I have.

Pretty much the same when connected directly to the modem. It has to be an OOL problem but who knows when it will be fixed.

They changed my modem twice last week. Had a Motorola Surfboard 5120, changed to 5222 and then another 5222. This despite the fact they've already acknowledge it's a system issue and note within my residence.

11234 here. Getting max 1300KB/s right now. At peak it goes down to 1000KB/s, the most I usually get is 1500KB/s. I am a Boost subscriber.

Given the issues I have had in the past (you can see my 10+ page thread about network issues), a part of me just wants to keep my mouth shut and live with it. But I'm a "power user" as you people also may be so it bugs me a little bit.

A tech has been here once, yesterday. That's all I will allow. I'm not wasting any time with these people. My splitters are all brand new. My modem is working fine. All the connections on the pole are tight. My signals are normal. FIX IT ON YOUR END DAMN YOU! Stop wasting my time making me wait for your tech monkeys to come on my only day off.

Well it's 1am now and I am able to download at 1mb. Still lower than advertised but I am guessing my area must have an overload since it is Sunday night and most people are not online at this time. OOL needs to fix this asap!

I am completely disappointed by OOL. We all should drop OOL and go with Verizon. We might get a discount if we can get enough people to switch. Let me know if anyone interested.

I am also getting slower than normal speeds in 11206 Brooklyn but that's not going to make me switch to Verizon's overpriced service.

it's not. ool is a "best effort" service and all advertised speeds are "up to".
56k is also "up to" 15/30mbit, so they can shrug you off.
CV doesn't have to go out of their way to improve your connection.
don't look at me as a troll. just have your expectations in the right place. don't expect anything to be fixed "asap".

If I was getting 1mb during the day I wouldn't mind that much. Being able to only get 300kb or less is unacceptable. I might as well get
Dsl for that speed. Being that it takes Monday early morning to even use my connection is unacceptable

I don't know how much you are paying for OOL, but I am paying $60 for this and I am only getting 1MB download most of the time. A dry loop DSL will only cost me $40 for a solid 3MB.

If you buy a car that advertised max speed of 150mph, but it will only runs at 10mph. Do you think the dealer should fix that for you and fix it ASAP??????

do you know what "up to" means? do you know what "best effort" means?
your analogy to a car is not relevant.

Their advertisements are still misleading though. Someone should call them on it. They at least need a clear disclaimer.

all of their ads always say "up to". and when you sign up for a service you are agreeing to their definition of all the terms.

but

and

So why the big difference? What I'm actually experiencing is the horrible low speeds so the difference might indicate where the trouble is.
