Just tried it (used the "Restart Modem" button on the config page)
Now have that software version
AND for the first time in a long while my modem shows the config file downloaded in the log
2008-09-12 14:38:11 6-Notice E102.0 SW Download INIT - Via Config file d11_m_sb5100_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm
I wonder what else it does.

Oy! I'm back to the old SB5101 incompatible config file issue that is preventing me from getting the firmware update. It took Comcrap 1 month to figure out how to reregister my modem last time to fix this. Here we go again... does anyone have any tips to get this quickly resolved so I can get the SB5100 update?

I'm an idiot. When I asked Comcast to fix the incorrect SB5101 config issue, I got downgraded from the Speedtier config to the Silver. Apparently I was getting 8mbps for the 6mbps price. Even better, it is still attempting to download the incorrect SB5101 config file.

I see it also

Does the incorrect SB5101 config file that keeps trying to get pushed to my modem prevent my SB5100 from grabbing the latest firmware? They reprovisioned my account and I am still getting the incorrect file. Are there any comcast techs on this forum that can look into my issue?

yes it will prevent you from downloading the firmware update

Is there anything else I can say to the techs to get them to push the correct config file? I thought reprovisioning would fix it. I had to go through the walled garden, etc... (which fixed this issue several months ago), but it did not help this time.

After seeing this thread, I reset my 5100 to factory defaults and re-booted. Now I too have received that version of firmware.

After posting many times here and at other forums that the modem no longer displays the config file info among the error log entries, low and behold, and after about a year, it once again displays the config file info...

There must be a God !!!

Maybe we shouldn't be so loud about it as they may find out and disable it once again !?!

It's not necessarily an "upgrade" per say, it is an update.

Any potential corrections and or improvements in the firmware code may not be outwardly apparent to the end user..

The SB5100/SB5101 invalid config file issue occurred a few months ago, but I thought it had been resolved. Apparently not for me.

Usually just bug fixes in the firmware that most likely will not be noticeable.
I thought I said that... ?

That's what happens when two people reply at the same time. Sorry about that.
