I'm finding it quite odd that the audio isn't working. By it's nature, MiniDV stores it's audio as PCM either at 32khz or 48khz. Either way, PCM doesn't require any additional codecs past what's included with windows and CERTAINLY VLC should handle it no problem.
I'd start checking your sound card and make sure it's working and playing back other audio. See if the audio will work playing on the camcorder or through a video out cable to a tv or something. See what audio settings you have set on the camera, etc..
Btw, I do assume you are using a firewire connection from the camera to import the video? If you are using usb, that introduces a whole slew of issues. The format these cameras outputs over usb varies between brand and model as they often re-encode on the fly to something like mpeg2 or something more compressed than DV to transfer in realtime over the usb connection. -- I swear, some people should have pace-makers installed to free up the resources. Breathing and heart beat taxes their whole system, all of their brain cells wasted on life support.-two bit brains, and the second bit is wasted on parity! ~head_spaz |

| I am too..Sound card works fine, all other forms of media player on the laptop here. I hear audio through the camera itself if I'm just watching the video on the display, and it also works if I plug the camera into the T.V.
I'm at a total loss.
Oh and I am using a fire wire. It's really bugging me to no end. |
