[Regarding image quality] ... among the lowest noise and otherwise highest image quality of any camera.
Hard to not like that.

Truly amazing is that ISO 25,000 equivalent, though noisy, is no worse than Tri-X used to be at ISO 1,200.
Wow! I need one.

I would suggest that a two camera kit consisting of a D300 and a D700 is almost ideal.
Yeah, and if I had a four-bay garage, parking a Lamborghini and a Ferrari in the other two stalls would be ideal. Sadly, ...

That seems a little redundant doesn't it? What does the D300 that the D700 doesn't, and the D700 is barely a quarter pound heavier. I think a D3/D700 combo would be killer.

I think his point was using the D300 for long lens shooting since the crop factor gets you out further... D700 will get you wider. put them together and shazam

D3 + D700 = $8,000
D700 + D300 = $4,800

I think the D700+D300 combo would be a good compromise in cost and performance. Event photogs, esp. weddings benefit from having 2 bodies. 1. no fumbling with lenses. 2. You have a backup body.

A 70-200mm on the D700 and the 17-55mm DX on the D300 could be a good combo.

or.. 70-200mm on the D700 and the 24-70mm on the 2nd D700.

Sounds like quite a workout!
