[FP] FP web site

If this topic has been discussed and decided upon ... then please tell me and we can close this thread.

I noticed the other day that we had lost the FP web site because (I am guessing here) the free host we had all these years shut it down.

I see some of you have done a nice job taking pertinent FP info and creating FAQ entries.

So, my question is ... should we (and I will help do this) move the rest of the pertinent info into FAQs. Or should we resurrect the site.

Today, I own and pay for one of the FP url's and I believe Ding does the same for the second one. I am willing to pay for a hosting site for us (probably on godaddy.)

But, all this aside ... do we think we need a web site anymore? I kind of like having everything here on BBR. But there might be reasons to have a separate site as well.

If we do want to resurrect the FP web site ... someone will need to be the web master. Which may prove to be the issue that kills this anyway.

So, opening a discussion here. Please focus on what is best for FP, Helix and our cause.

Signed, Gargoyle (ex-FP webmaster)

I would like to see information about the hardware summarized in one place rather than poking and prodding thru threads going back however many years.

I've been hosting some of the FP blades since last April, and even tho I configured, and maintain the blades, I can't always remember what they actually are.

Looking on the FoldyMonitor page, you see a nice listing of hosts and their reporting machines. Yet, no-where is there a summary of the equipment.

I feel when asking members or operators to consider upgrading equipment it would be much easier to make educated decisions if folks could see a roster of the hardware.

Also, for other non-operators that might wish to consider purchasing new or used gear, knowing how someone else configured it would be helpful.

Whether it can be done within the framework of the FAQ system here, a mod locked sticky thread here in the DC forum, or on an external site, on the same machine that hosts the foldy monitor, or somewhere else is not important to me. The level of difficulty in creating and maintaining such a list might be the real deal breaker.

My .02 cents worth.

Flashback »[Serious] **Who Maintains/Manages This Page**

I have seen it down a long time, but key things are within the DSLR site now. Seems the URLs are maybe only worthwhile to keep them from miss-use? And those OPs using fah-tool.org do give an idea of hardware in use.

I am also in favor of dropping the FP website. It seems redundant today, and its usefulness was in the past. Keeping everything here in the FAQ's seems to make the most sense.

I agree completely.

We need to solve this one either in a FAQ on BBR .. or a page hosted elsewhere and linked here.

I am leaning here too Matt.

We need to do a little work to see how hard it will be to keep all the Foldy data/details in a FAQ per Parkut's post..
