| Request for a private Military Forum
Yes I know, I have asked before and there was a lot of support but those that fear a hot bed of political rhetoric prevented its conception.
Therefore I am asking the members to support a private Military forum. membership would have to be approved or entrance gained by giving your MID to get in. This should prevent spamming and other problems for the mods.
The forum would deal with current situations, military pay, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, the new Vietnam, and all other Military, all countries welcomed.
Especially important is the development of new weapon systems, computer guided missiles the the technology, past present and future that enables modern military forces to operate.
Open to any suggestions as to the formation and moderation of the forum.
Thank you for your consideration. -- My Bloggs, »www.insidetheie.com/ »earthlogii.blogspot.com/ »vietaffairsvets.blogspot.com/ A Forecaster for HinghamWX on EarthLogIIWX. Why is it that people who don't care about the weather are the first to bitch about it when it changes |

| Very simple; The best way to do this is to ask for there units or ships, and dog tag numbers.
My idea is that a member would have to type in his ID each time he wanted entrance, and of course IE 7 and Firefox will remember those. A hacker or spammer would not have or hopefully not access to ID's and ship or unit numbers.
If a hacker tried and we caught him, just think, there is an agency that pays a reward for people impersonating Military people. -- My Bloggs, »www.insidetheie.com/ »earthlogii.blogspot.com/ »vietaffairsvets.blogspot.com/ A Forecaster for HinghamWX on EarthLogIIWX. | reply to PoloDude I put it that way because some people are worried that the forum would degenerate into a political firestorm. If we ask people to show members to write in there ship number, or ship name, unit or BOD number it would cut down on the annoyance sniping. |

Is this intended just for active duty? Will veterans be welcome?
I don't like having the forum private. It won't necessarily degenerate into politics, but I think it will almost surely degenerate into inter-branch bickering whether public or private.
Why not set up your own Yahoo group for it? Chances are they already have one. Check these out:

But I'm sure if you keep making topics, you'll eventually get it. It worked for the weather forum: »Create a private forum for all Weather topics »Suggestion for a Weather Forum.... »Storm posting and update forum. »I would like to see a Space Forum...
Lets see, this is your second topic requesting this. You've only got a couple more to start before it's created. »Military Forum »Request for a private Military Forum -- SBKRadio | dslr tools

| reply to ghostpainter I highly object. There are sure to many drawn out arguments in that forum if it were to be created. You would have a bunch of old-timers thinking they know something about how the military currently operates coming in and trying to force their opinion, and you would have a bunch of current active-duty like myself on the completely other end. I can just see it as a hot-bed for arguments and other shit that really doesn't need talking about. You would in no way be able to guarentee that everyone in that forum were real prior/active military anyways. They could give a fake ID number/name/etc..
Not to mention you want discussion on the new weapon systems / computer systems / etc and how they work. And as you should allready know everything is FOUO to begin with. Meaning discussion on such things, especially from active duty members, could possibly be a compromise in security. You never know who is reading a semi-public forum.
Object. You always have access to www.military.com or any number of specific job code forums floating around the web anyways. -- "You figured it out. All new CPU's are nothing but overclocked Pentium 1's with a few bells and whistles added, ask any ol timer whose been around." |

| reply to ghostpainter You do realize that the current MID is now your SSN and no longer a separate service number, right?
We really don't need another forum. There are other forums for this stuff.

| Re: Request for a private Military Forum
Do the janitors want their own forum?...Interesting concept.
Lets see, people are against because we in the service are to elitist if we want to make it private, and others are against it if we leave it open because it would become a hotbed of political infighting, and snipping and spam attacks and finally if I wanted to be a Yahoo i would be there instead of here and not even Microsoft wants Yahoo.
interesting.
And yes I am aware that they now use SS number instead of the old bod numbers. They did that in 1972. -- My Bloggs, »www.insidetheie.com/ »earthlogii.blogspot.com/ »vietaffairsvets.blogspot.com/ A Forecaster for HinghamWX on EarthLogIIWX.
