said by gaforces :They do have a monopoly, even if you have a choice for DSL. They control the wire line and any ISP has to buy the circuit from ATT. In my area ATT has been raising the wholesale prices to the local ISP's and lowering their own to the public to kill off the competition. So VOIP, Cable telephone & cell/wireless isn't an alternative?
The original poster was talking about Uverse by the way... which competes with cable & satellite. No monopoly, sorry. |

| reply to Cod Maybe when they implement DocSis 3 it will be a comparable alternative. To me, the overloading of the nodes of cable doesn't even put it in the same ballpark of quality as xDSL.
Cell/Wireless is also catching up to what I use connectivity for, it's close enough now for me to switch, but it is not the same quality.
ATT and the other cannibal children of the old Bell system own most of the wireline infrastructure of the US, so at some point cable and wireless pass through their control. -- There is no greater sign of a general decay of virtue in a nation, than a want of zeal in its inhabitants for the good of their country. ~ Joseph Addison |
