Re: Need to replace dead Actiontec router... options?

Ok, but basically I don't need wireless, so if someone knows a good option without wireless, that's fine with me.

Budget? Let's roughly say $400, but that's flexible.

You can't buy it at the store but getting a zyxel zywall 5 works very nice with fios. Better then anything you are going to get at the store.

for ease of use your not going to beat the Actiontec. Most consumer routers like those found at bestbuy or circuit city are not going to support multiple static addresses. The actiontec is decent till you have a large number of simultaneous connections like a busy web server. The zywall is a good product as is the cisco871 or the adtran 2054 or sonicwall devices. I use a cisco871 on my fios 20/20 with 5 static ips, my Actiontec died after 13 months, but beware some of the alternatives are not as easy to setup, but some do have forums on DSR.

HI
I bought a Actiontec router on ebay a few weeks ago to use as a backup if the router Verizon gave me broke. I have it up and running without a problem. I paid $45 for the unit and that included shipping. I updated the firmware on the initial setup and so far all is working well.
I use the router at home for my network.

There are some comments on this thread:
»Which router to replace Actiontec

VZ should replace the Actiontec if less than 12 months old.

I'm assuming you have a cat-5 connection to the ONT. If you have a coax connection, you will need to get VZ to switch the connection to cat-5 to use a router other than the Actiontec.
