| Re: [ps2] Play Station 2 Issue Did she buy the correct laser? PS2s use up to 3-4 different models of Laser assemblies. I believe if you use the wrong laser, it can exhibit the problem you're describing. Also, most lasers ship with the anti-static solder points connected, you'd need to desolder them for the laser to actually turn on.
Make sure she plugged in all the ribbon cables from the PS2's DVD drive into the motherboard.
The part in question is the drive motor.

| Re: [ps2] Play Station 2 Issue I just spoke to my girlfriend. She informed me the laser she bought is exactly the same one that was in the unit before. Also the laser did not have the anti-static solder points. Apparently this PS2 is very old generation doesn't have solder points. | |

| Re: [ps2] Play Station 2 Issue said by Silvanos :They are dirt cheap wouldn't it be easier to just buy one to give to the kids? Well she wants to refurnish this particular PS2.She doesn't want to throw it away. But it seems this may ultimately come to that. | |

| Re: [ps2] Play Station 2 Issue Or if shes intent on making that particular one work, buy a couple dead ones off ebay or something and use them for parts.
You could probably even get some donated to you if you put an ad up somewhere. I'm sure theres a ton of people with dead ps2's and even working ones they dont want anymore. I still have one of the original ones sitting here collecting dust that I already sold all the games to.
