|  [WCG-UD] Switching to BOINC - Timeline Draws Closer for UD
An announcement released today from WCG:
If you have recently returned a result from a computer with the United Devices (UD) version of the World Community Grid software.
As announced here, World Community Grid is not going to make any future research projects available for the UD version of the software, and plans to stop sending work units to computers with the UD software by June 30, 2008.
Please update your software to the BOINC version of our software at your earliest convenience.
You can go here to get the new software.

| I have to admit that I preferred the older and familiar UD client when we first started this run, but I am so glad I made the switch.
BOINC has been very stable for me on all my machines and if you are running the new multiple core processors it's awesome.
And no, lil' didn't smack me upside the head to say that.

| Yeah the old UD agent was so solid, but it was outdated and inefficient with today's multicore systems.
Boinc is pretty good, though sometimes i have to restart a stuck agent.

It's hard to change.. I do kind of miss that little blue pill. But BOINC is really a big improvement.

| That I understand - It is hard to change from something that has been part of your life here for so long. That is why I was hesitant to switch when we started this project.
BOINC really has been so much smoother. I have not had any stalled or stuck agents recently and the ability to load a few days work is a real plus.
I suppose if one was clever enough one could figure out how to substitute that little blue pill for the BOINC tray icon.

| If you look in your boinc directory you will see a sub directory called skins. The version of boinc released by WCG already has their skin installed. It would be easy for someone to change the skin.

Looks like the date is now May 31st for the last UD work units to be sent.

A: The distribution of the software to be able to register new UD agent clients has ceased. The target migration completion and ending of all work distribution to UD agent clients will be May 31, 2008. Last completed Results will be accepted from the UD agent until June, 30, 2008.
