justin Australian join:1999-05-28 Brooklyn, NY | Was there a widespread Denver outage last week?
We had an inquiry from a reporter, and I couldn't find any chit-chat in the forum about the outage. Apparently it took out a "sizable chunk of the Western Slope" - and took out everything.
Anyone from the area experience that? |

| We didn't have any problems last week here at the office.
We are provisioned by Qwest but we have Front Range Internet as our ISP. -- "It's like a Zen koan - if you say something stupid, and no one is there to hear it, are you still an idiot?" -Mike Krahulik |

1 edit | reply to justin Qwest.net has been rock solid, as usual, for me:
pppoe0: flags=8851[UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST] mtu 1492 dev: fxp0 state: session sid: 0x4976 PADI retries: 0 PADR retries: 0 time: 34d 13:12:27
...and the uptime is at 34 days only because of a power outage, not Qwest. |

@QWEST.NET | reply to justin From Google it sounds like a 5hr outage occurred maybe because of a fiber cable cut. No real details though. Probably why the reporter needs some info. |

@QWEST.NET | reply to justin The articles where saying some cell(Verizon and ATT), credit card machines were out and 911 worked but was rerouted. Plus maybe select cities. |

| reply to justin there was a significant outage due to some circuit failure in SW Colorado. I know because some of my long distance customers (on different carriers) could not make calls. I don't know if the failure was a cut, an equipment failure, sabotage, animal related, or anything else. It did impact voice calls ... I don't know if Qwest's IP routing uses that same facility. But it would make sense that IP was less impacted as packets can take many paths. -- "Teleblend has an agreement with the Assignee to solicit and support former SunRocket customers." |

| reply to justin Maybe this story just points out just how far wireless and IP technologies have come and how little legacy copper services make an impact.
