Brooklyn, NY |  Was there a widespread Denver outage last week?
We had an inquiry from a reporter, and I couldn't find any chit-chat in the forum about the outage. Apparently it took out a "sizable chunk of the Western Slope" - and took out everything.
Anyone from the area experience that? |

Qwest.net has been rock solid, as usual, for me:

From Google it sounds like a 5hr outage occurred maybe because of a fiber cable cut. No real details though. Probably why the reporter needs some info. |

The articles where saying some cell(Verizon and ATT), credit card machines were out and 911 worked but was rerouted. Plus maybe select cities. |

there was a significant outage due to some circuit failure in SW Colorado. I know because some of my long distance customers (on different carriers) could not make calls. I don't know if the failure was a cut, an equipment failure, sabotage, animal related, or anything else. It did impact voice calls ... I don't know if Qwest's IP routing uses that same facility. But it would make sense that IP was less impacted as packets can take many paths.

Maybe this story just points out just how far wireless and IP technologies have come and how little legacy copper services make an impact.
