1 edit | reply to penawab2007 Re: [billing] New DSL Rate Hike
The future is clearly not DSL, but cable and wireless broadband (wi-fi and wi-max). That's what Congress needs to be working on instead of letting the Universal Service Fund squander $billions annually subsidizing land-line!
P.S. the equivalent DSL from gwi.net (ME & NH) costs $55-60 per month with 5 mailboxes, compared to $30-37 from Verizon. Plus gwi.net favors land-line subsidies - what a joke! |

I have been with them just over 4 years at $29.95 and ........ is changing to $35.99 per month.* Your new rate will take effect in no less than 30 days and you will see the new rate within two billing cycles. .... here in Maine ... matt Dude, for that kind of money you should get GWI and much higher speeds (of course dependent on the variables.) Brunswick is in GWI land though right? I plan on it as soon as my dirt cheap promo is up. I'd advise to, GWI hasn't had capacity issues to date, but watch, when Fairpoint comes in, their gonna get crazy volume and have to list customers seeing how they're using allot of court ordered shared equipment, but all the same they're service is 10 time sbetter. | reply to KachiWachi I was grandfathered, but it didn't matter for me....$33.61 is what I now pay for 1 year commitment. I went around with them on the phone about the raise in price, but didn't get very far. I could have pushed it to retention but didn't want to go through the aggrevation for a few bucks.
keep in mind I got a solid 3.0 connection, having very minimal problems over the years, a couple glitches over 7 years of service. I have satellite TV (which I like), so switching to comcast is hardly an option. All or most of my neighboring towns have fios, I'm still waiting here in Souderton.I guess verizon isn't greasing enough local palms to get them to move?
I guess I'm now relagated to being on fios watch..... |

2 edits | reply to KachiWachi That's what I am (or thought I was grandfathered in), I've had Verizon DSL since the week it came to my area. I'm currently on hold with a wait time of 'zero minutes'?!?
Edit: After about 15 mins on hold, I finally got to talk to someone. I was told that there was no grandfathering and if I was promised the $29.95 price I was mis-informed, and the lowest price I could get would be $31.95 a month with a yr committment BUT my speed would increase for free to 3.2 from 1.5. I asked what the price would be if I kept the 1.5 and she said it would be $31.95 as well, but if I wanted something lower I could go to the 700 speed. I ended the call by telling her I'd think about it, I plan to call back later today and see what other story I can get with someone else. |

How does this affect those of us grandfathered at the $29.95 rate from day one?
Anyone know? |

I have been with them just over 4 years at $29.95 and this was my letter: Our records indicate that you currently subscribe to a Verizon High Speed Internet on a month to month plan. We are writing to inform you that your rate for your High Speed Internet package is changing to $35.99 per month.* Your new rate will take effect in no less than 30 days and you will see the new rate within two billing cycles. Of course here in Maine they are planning to bail out of the state so maybe I should resign a package and then use that as my out when they bail??? matt I am in maine too. It kept going up and up thinking I had a good deal at first. I gave up the 3mbit, asked for the slowest cheapest dsl, even though 3 mbit is available.(just yesterday after a couple of years) I learned something interesting about 3 mbit. there are fewer places that let 3 mbit happen than I wasn't paying attention to. Speed tests and updating windows at 400kbyte/sec is not the whole internet. To my own embarrassing epiphany, I did not know my service changed until updating a large gamer file.I went more than a day at 90 kbyte dl and 16kb uplaod and had no clues it even changed to slower account! Given the dynamics of loss in speeds everyday, I do not regret my move. If to give advice, go for the slower setup. when 3mbit is 20 bucks a month someone finally got thier head out of thier greedy butt and is offering common sense. mine climbed to 39.99 and stayed there. Ridiculous. I am assured now to be 16 bucks cheaper a month with no silent price creeping hike. Not to mentiuon that dogwhistle squeal that mysteriously left my working space. |
