| [CDV] UPDATE - CDP to CDV
Update to this thread: »[CDV] CDP to CDV Questions...
Appointment was for 3:00PM - 5:00PM today... He called at 8:30 AM to confirm and asked if he could come by earlier!
I told him "Come on by NOW!" - he did!
Was painless. Disconnected my modem, replaced it with an ARRIS TM502G Telephony Modem. Made a call on his cell and had the MAC provisioned. Modem reset.
Called another number and asked for a dialtone... modem reset again. Plugged in his test phone... asked for a house phone cord - plugged it in and all phones worked fine!
Went outside and bypassed the CDP ARRIS box on the garage, asked me to see if there was still a dialtone - Yes!
Signed the work order and here I am!
Still getting insano speeds and the phone works like a champ!
No issues and he was polite and did the job fast.
Comcast is *NOT* teh devil!
Actually, I think I gained a few(300) kbps on the upload PowerBoost - Bummer, huh?

| reply to dadkins Same exact experience here in MA. Had HSI and digi cable for 2 years, but just dumped Verizon for a triple play deal, and the tech was on time, finished quickly, and the CDV is great.
My HSI is now faster than it's ever been with test speeds to NY servers at almost 20mb DL and 2mb UL. Even tests to Europe are much faster.
I am now paying about $55 less/mo and the quality so far has gone up with no fuss. Another positive story. |

| reply to dadkins Thanks everyone!
Cool Digital Voice Center too! Get to see who and when you called/who called you with a couple clicks! Either from a bookmark or from the Comcast email page.
HSI is kickin, and calls on the service are Crystal Clear!

| Getting this installed tomorrow to swap out or Digital Phone service. My cable modem is tucked in the closet but looks like I either have to run a POTS line into the closet or move the cable modem out of the closet to get the device access to the homes phone network. ugh. and only a day to get this done. |

3 edits | Yeah, I had to run a phone line to this room too. All parts cost ~$11.00 and my having to deal with shredded fiberglass in the attic...
Ah well, setup here was fast and painless! The TM502G modem works great!
TM502G Signals:
Downstream Freq/Power: 705.000 MHz -11 dBmV Signal to Noise Ratio: 35 dB Modulation: QAM256
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Upstream Freq/Power: 24.800 MHz 50 dBmV Channel Type: DOCSIS 1.x (TDMA)
Symbol Rate: 2560 kSym/sec
Modulation: QAM16
-11 is a little low... but my connection is still killer!

said by mikeeo :Still think CDP isn't voip? -Mike CCIE #17982 Yes! Seeing as Comcast themselves refer to it as switched phone service.
CDP is different from CDV.
CDV is not switched phone service, is it?

1 edit | said by dadkins :CDV is not switched phone service, is it? every phone service or phone call for that matter is switched at some point on the PSTN. CDP is a legacy system that was inherited from another provider. It a locally switched system that is IP backhauled. Therefore once your voice conversation gets converted to a voice codec it becomes VoIP. Even thats at the CCNA level. |

Wow, I wish my CDV was installed that fast!
I've been waiting since May-- the installers have been late every single time and i've had to reschedule every single time! |
