PHILLYBIZRight Now join:2001-01-27 Philadelphia, PA | reply to gordon21 If you encounter problems that you cannot resolve, it is often beneficial to uninstall Internet Explorer and then reinstall it. This procedure replaces files that might have been damaged.
In Windows, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
If you are using Windows XP, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs. If you upgraded to Internet Explorer 6, when you uninstall Internet Explorer 6, you will go back to the version of Internet Explorer that was on your computer before you upgraded. -- "How may I help you?" |

 | reply to gordon21 That's the problem with it, IE 6 is not located in the add/remove option. -- By the Power of Greyskull.... |

 | Me too. I upgraded from WinMe to WinXP and don't have IE in Add/Remove programs. Nor is it listed in RegCleaner..Have searched for a way to uninstall and cannot find anything.
Tried to reinstall but the Microsoft site tells me that I have a newer version than the one on their site and aborts the install..

Here's how, go to the add/remove control panel, click on the add/remove windows components button, and IE should be right there. -- »www.geocities.com/slashdot14 |

| reply to gordon21 I would fix it by doing a system restore if you don't find it located under Window Components.. [text was edited by author 2001-11-23 18:52:07] |

| reply to slash According to MSKB Article # Q293907 the Add\Remove Programs entry in XP is only for the following:
NOTE: Internet Explorer 6 is preinstalled by default in all versions of Windows XP. To provide computer manufacturers greater flexibility in configuring desktop versions of Windows XP, Microsoft has made it possible for OEMs, administrators, and users to remove user access to Internet Explorer while leaving the Internet Explorer code intact and fully functional to ensure the functionality of programs and operating system functions that rely on it. For example, Windows XP supports an "IEAccess=off" switch in the Unattend.txt file, and Internet Explorer has been added to the Add/Remove Windows Components section of the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel (as of RC2).
In other words, Add\Remove is useless.
I had an idea from a recent post and tried the following command line:
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "D:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "D:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
That did nothing but bring up a disabled Repair\Uninstall dialogue box. -- You can't have everything. . . . where would you put it? |

| reply to MSeng To repair IE 6, for Windows XP...go to Accessories>Command Prompt>Type in sfc /scannow> hit enter(space after 'c') ...if a problem it will call for XP-CD-ROM>If no major problem it will just run...Good Luck...I was told if running Home, it will call for Pro CD -ROM,(use Home CD-ROM) just let run that's OK...Takes about 20 minutes...Also if you want to see what else sfc does just type in sfc /scan...hit enter...
Edit; just found link on how to repair XP-IE6> Just what I said, but here's the link anyhow...Here to repair XP-IE6>>> Better to run from command prompt, than Start>Run...

 | kcazzie - I owe you a million bucks.
You have found the answer to the $64,000 dollar question. For the past week, I have been searching the various forums and search engines and came up empty.
Reinstalled WinXP 3 times and still squat in Add/Remove for Internet Explorer. When I try to download it from the Microsoft site, I get a rude message that the one I have on my computer is more recent than what I am trying to download and it aborts.
Such is life with Microsoft!
Again, you are a lifesaver and I am eternally grateful.
