| Slow speed - RH area
Just curious if anyone in the richmond hill area (specifically bayview and major mac) is using TekSavvy? I've been using them for about a week and had numerous conversations with the technicians, but no improvement on speed.
The stats are about 1300kb dl/ 300kb up. Not sure, but Teksavvy says that may be the max that i'll get and may have to switch to cable if i'm too far from the CO. I really like their service and don't wanna switch, but if this is all i can get, i might be forced to choose another isp.
Anyway, anyone in that area using and if so, what kind of speeds do you get?

| Hi, yes I'm in the same area as thwrx and I am also experiencing the same speeds 1295kb dl/ 290kb up. It's half of the 3meg service I originally signed up for, and now with the upgrade to 5meg it marginal to what is offered.
I got some line stats on my # and they turned out to be the same as my modem stats. Originally I thought it was bad physical wiring in my house, but several tests around different phone jacks and at the source prove wrong. Looks like we're too far from the CO, hopfully there will be some line upgrades and a remote setup soon... But nevertheless Teksavvy offers great customer service.

Btw thwrx what dsl modem are you using?
Im using the Westell SpeedStream a90-210015-04 with latest firmware vER_01_00_35.
Could it be possible that the modem just sucks? |

| I am using a speedstream 5200, although I have also tried a speedstream 5360 and had the same results.
Teksavvy also told me about the distance to CO problem, but the funny thing is I used Bell about 2 years ago (on the 3meg service) and it was faster than what I currently get. I asked a Bell technician who visited me about where the CO was and he said around Bayview and Highway 7, which isn't too far.
Btw, are you using the 100GB capped server or not? I wonder if it would make a difference...I'm on capped.
Well, I guess you are right, just have to wait it out and see if there are some upgrades...I can't go back to Rogers!!!  |
