Is there a minimum period?

Is there a minimum subscription period? and
What happens if you move but keep the same phone number? Does Bell move the DSL access with it?

For TSI (TekSavvy)? Nope.

They don't do contracts - you can leave any time without penalty ... but I think most people find it to be like the Hotel California

How do you know there is no penalty ?

Have you ever heard from ex teksavvy customers ?
Didn't think so.

All those who leave get cement shoes as a gift, and one of the italian cousins of the TSI family (the Tsiginos) delivers the shoes personally and ensures they are tried once for good fit.

Seriously though, I think there is some clause that if you leave in the first month, there is some penalty that is charged by Bell to teksavvy and this gets passed on to the leaving customer (I think it is $20, but I am sure the godfather of the TSI family (Rocky) can chime in to confirm)

Also, I am not sure if this penalty applies to new DSL installations only or if they apply to customer who were already on DSL and just switched.

For a login-only account I don't think there would be any penalty since Bell isn't involved in those accounts.

The penalty is that you have to deal with some other company once you leave

The website says there's a $25 penalty if you move or change speed within the first month, no mention of canceling. I'm sure that Rocky will enlighten us.

The worry is not of leaving teksavvy for reasons of teksavvy, but rather because it will be for my student daughters who have now burnt me several times on Bell's basic service by going over their caps, and my stupidity in taking the "discount" which means I have to pay a penalty to move them off!

Then they'll probably end up moving before the next semester - and I don't know if it will be to somewhere that already has internet.

No contract prices Sbrook, TekSavvy prides itself on really being more of a WYSIWYG kind of company, no tricks or gimmicks, if you have any other questions, We'd be happy to answer them =)

Hey guys,

There is a penalty of $25 if you move in the first month. The service is month-to-month is once you've started your month, you're on the hook for it. We're generally pretty fair about first month cancellations, so so long as you're not trying to screw us over, we'll normally work with you.

As to the penalties. If you take the premium service and go over it we'll give you a one-time chance to go to the unlimited network, or pay the overage.

Regards,

Rocky

Wouldn't the logical thing be to start with Unlimited and only move to Peer1 if you are reasonably sure that your usage is well below 100 gig or if Cogent has performance problems for your type of use ?

Does the one time change rule apply to both directions, or just from Peer1 to Cogent ?

There's no usage penalty on the Cogent side, so....

Thanks folks. I called Bell to cancel with the intention of moving to Teksavvy, and was prepared to eat the cancellation fee and so on.

The first time I called, the retentions person I spoke to simply argued and argued and argued. He tried to bribe me back but answered questions I had with unrelated arguments. I asked to speak with his manager and he outright refused to let me get through to him/her. I hung up.

I called back and got a different person, who on hearing the story of the what made me want to leave AND what the first person did, made me an offer I couldn't refuse!

Thanks for answering the questions though to the TSI guys.

If I could get DSL at my own home, I'd be with you guys in a shot ... but I'm semi-rural, 10km from the central office which has only just gone digital, and 4km from the satellite which hasn't. So, I'm stuck with that cable company's offerings!

Yup ... I was willing to eat the cancellation fee on the basis of difference in cost (it would have made up for it with TS Unlimited), but Bell's new offer made it unwise to do so.

What was their offer?

May I ask (on behalf of all those curious here) *why* you cannot say? e.g. Did Bell specifically say that the 'deal' they gave you, you're not allowed to tell anyone else about?

(I tell ya, I have this impression of that Bell is like a used car dealer - it's tough to know for oneself if they got a good deal, and sometimes the deals themselves are so "good", they're a secret ... which usually means they're not such a good deal ... though you sound like an educated end-user).

Anyway, thx for sharing your story and hope that you have a good experience with Bell - though it looks like you know what you're up against ("The first time I called .... {in frustration} I hung up.")

It's not that I'm not "allowed", but at the same time, I'm honouring a request that I consider reasonable in as much it was based partly on individual circumstances and not one that could be made generally available.

That said, if you were tied to a contract with Bell and you tried to get out to go somewhere like TekSavvy, the offer even without additional circumstances would be enticing and your decision would depend on probably more than just the price of service.

Considering that at my own home, I use Rogers, I understand all about frustration to the nth power and know that Bell and Rogers compete in this area too.

Are you still using their lite service?

No ... it's the 5mbps service from the 1mbps service.

So High speed now? if they offered you a 30 dollar deal with one year contract, that's pretty standard around here.
