And, to top it off, the penny costs 1.7 pennies to make!
With all the pennies out there in jars you'd think the Mint could pay banks $1.20 for every dollar of pennies they collect, the banks could pay consumers $1.10 for every dollar of pennies they collect.
The banks and consumers make 10cents profit on each dollar and the Mint saves $0.50 on each dollar.
A perfect win-win-win situation!
