| Changing Telefonica adsl-modem to my own Linksys Wlan-modem.
Hi,
I've been surfing around the net, trying to find info about mentioned topic.
My brother has Telefonicas adsl-connection and Telefonicas Usb adsl-modem in Spain, Malaga. When he opens the internet browser, he has to "open" some kind of connection, just like I did with telefone (dial) modem long time ago. The line is adsl I'm sure, but I don't understand what is this "dialing" thing in startup? He also needs password and username, why? I have only experienced adsl here in Finland, and here I don't need any passwords. I only need the connection from ISP, and then I use my own modem with ISP:s VPI/VCI values.
Well, anyway, I found telefonicas VPI and VCI values which are:
VCI-value must be 8 VPI-value must be either 32 or 35
What else do I need to do to get this modem work?
Does anyone know how many public Ip-addresses does Telefonica grant? Only one?
Lot of questions..
If somebody knows something about the subject, I appreciate it.

| reply to Juha I am also near Malaga and my Telefonica broadband connection is: VPI/VCI 8/32, PPPoE, LLC/SNAP. Yes, you need a username and password, it was the same when I was in the UK as well, so I find that part quite normal. Telefonica give you only one IP address and that is assigned dynamically. Hope that helps. N. | | Juha

| Ok,
U are sure about the one ip address?
Ok, so then I need to use routed mode...
I bought Belkins wireless adsl modem.
I set up Belkins connection type to pppoe, used vpi vci 8/32 values, used username and passwords and so on. There was just one problem, Telefonica says that encapsulation should be rfc 2516, but Belkin has only llc or vc/mux, and the mtu number that I used was 1432.
Internet works, kinda. Some pages doesn't show up at all. For example, iltasanomat.fi or my web mail. Client mail sends, but doesn't receive.
I think the problem is NAT? Is there any way to get Modem work in routed mode? I have two computers, so I can't use bridged mode at all, right? If I turn off NAT, the Internet doesn't work at all (of course).
Any experience about this, anyone? | |
