 Clearwire service

Service area: Issaquah/Sammamish border near Lake Sammamish

I made the mistake of going into Best Buy in Bellevue, WA to check out Clearwire's offerings because I was pissed at my Comcast cable service. I figured I'd switch out my Internet and cable provider.

I signed on for 2 years with Clearwire through a Clearwire rep at Best Buy. He said if I signed on for 2 years, I'd get the modem for free and wouldn't have to pay the lease fee.

Clearwire takes out my first month's payment from my checking account and they bill me $4.95 for a modem lease fee. I called to inquire and got the run around. First they had to check all their sales deals out there, then they had to check with a sales rep, than a supervisor. I get a call back days later saying there is no such promotion in existence. Okay, so I'm feeling like I've been taken by the slick willy Clearwire sales rep at Best Buy now.

As if that weren't enough, the service was good for about my first week. After that, I might as well have fricken dial up. I want my Comcast Internet back!!! I frequently work from home and need to be connected. It's not as if my service is slow because I download files either. I can't even switch between pages on the SAME WEBSITE with any speed whatsoever.

Stay as far away from this service as possible. The speed isn't there and the service is negligible at best. Does Craig McCaw actually think he's going to be able to get funding through and IPO? I certainly hope investors read reviews of the service before investing.

If they are going to try and hold me to my contract, they are going to have a fight on their hands and it ain't going to be pretty.
