Intel in this to sell their Wimax enabled chips

I hate to sound like Scrooge, but Intel is pushing for Wimax broadband in their "World Ahead" program in order to further their own ends - the expansion of Wimax and the Intel chipsets that support Wimax in PCs. Nothing wrong with that, but it isn't being done out of some philanthropic impulse.

P.S.> Broadband isn't a utility no matter what the UN says. Just see the comments in this BBR thread quoted in the above news item: »UN Says Broadband a Utility

Nice picture of Cairo, but what has that to do with the story and the other posters claim of Fiber to the hut. The rollout is in Oseem, Egypt - not Cairo.
OSEEM, Egypt, Dec. 18, 2006 – In a small city near the Nile River where cars compete with cattle and modern conveniences are scarce, Intel Corporation is using computers and wireless technology to help Oseem's 200,000 residents
Of course, the story isn't talking about fiber either. It is about Wimax.
