"The HomePortal will allow up to 512 NAT Sessions, or connections, through it. This is more than adequate for nearly every typical case. However, when a computer behind the HomePortal is infected with one or more of a number of known worms that propagate by making outbound connections in order to infect other computers, all of the available 512 NAT Sessions can be filled by the worm(s) outbound connections. When this happens, the user will be unable to browse, or may find browsing slow, from behind the HomePortal. "
I'm assuming that this happens when you have multiple torrents/files being downloaded or uploaded as well. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications. |

only 512 connections? Sheesh. I'd average 900-1000 when torrenting. I could get a BT app that could schedule, but I've been using it this way for eons.
Glad I switched for the Thomson now... |

Haven't had the same problem with my 2wire. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications. |

 | you'll see exactly the same issue with the linksys WRT54G on stock firmware
afaik all the 3rd party firmwares for it will allow you to increase that number tho (for the linksys, not the 2wire)
2wire also has an issue with it's wireless chipset that causes some neato issues |

 | Found a neat posting with the »2Wire 2700HG-B Opened & Striped. You can take a look at the chips inside. Quite interesting. |

ynohtnaNeed... Speed join:2005-02-02 Burnaby, BC | reply to JammerMan79 ya I limit my connections to 512 active but I'm not sure what rate the drops an 'inactive connection' with strict udp control |
|
 | reply to JammerMan79 As of software version 3.7+ the NAT session table was bumped to 1024 per the FAQ here »2 Wire »Is there information on my 2Wire's Firmware? Unless you are running an older 2Wire (like an 1800HW or prior, not any HGs and definitely not any of the 2700s) you will not have the 3.5.x and prior firmware that was limited to 512 sessions.
Hope this helps, extrados |

| Better check again in the real world. That might be what it is theoretically capable of. But in real life use 512 or less is way more realistic. Maybe even to nice (256 more likely). -- If a tree falls in the forest and it isn't heard or seen did the tree actually fall in the forest ?? |

 | reply to JammerMan79 I like how they are admitting a problem, but then put the blame on the end user by attributing it to an infected PC with a virus or worm.
Typical. 512 NAT sessions is nothing. |
