no luck even on a fast connection

i work for a CLEC that only sells business class communication services in florida and today i had to work so i figured sitting on a DS3 connection would help....WRONG at 2:58 EST the site took a dump even for me

knowing you work for a clec kind of scares me, how pray tell would you expect your pipe to be any different from the rest , when there is no bandwidth left for them to send out ?

Even if your hop timing were much less then others there is no bandwidth even if your faster.

Which is what has been said.

However, out of the lets say 500,000 web page loads during the crucial minute, at least 1,000 got through. The question is, how did the webserver determine which ones it sent stuff out to?

Odds are that they were done in some sort of priority order based at least in part upon responding to the first requests it received, which would have been a combination of the people who had the lowest ping time (combination of being fewer hops and better connection), and people who clicked at the right time.

So in that sense, it could have made a differance. I'm not saying it DID, I'm saying it COULD have.

Ultimately, it makes no difference. There was about a 1 in 500 to 1 in 1000 chance to get an Xbox. Those are losing odds. Anyone who didn't get one got the outcome they SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED. No one trying to get this promotion should have been expecting to actually get one, since the odds were totally and completely against you.

The complaints about technical problems are a red-herring. If everything had worked perfectly, the odds are that everyone here who didn't get one STILL wouldn't have gotten one.
