Surely just because "gum" has been prohibited for a while this isn't your reason?
That and their love for the death penalty.
I had to read that one three times just to make sure ... I was laughing so hard .....

(for the unititiated - the states has an unhealthy love of both firearms and the execution of select criminal groups)

 The US does not have a love of the death penalty. Our appeals process is like 20 years. I don't get what you are saying about fire arms either, guns are perfectly ok in the right hands.
