1 edit | [XP] Weird Slowdown in XP networking
I have a download problem on my main machine on my home network. Download speeds have always been good, and still are on 2 other PC's on the network.
I have tried TCPOPTIMIZER and DRTCP - the registry settings for MTU, MSS, etc are all fine.
I have tried removing the NIC from System settings and rebooting to re-add - same issue.
Everything looks fine, just speed limited on this PC. Must be something I loaded. I tried killing all non-essential processes, same thing happens.
Just tried booting in Safe Mode with Networking - same issue.
I tried changing cable - same issue.
This is the highest download speed I got today - normally it is in the 4XXX Kbps range. I get that on all other PC's on the LAN.

Any ideas? |

Are all computers cabled? Try swapping router ports. And how did you change the cable - did you have a spare, or did you swap with another computer?
You tried killing all non-essential processes. How did you identify all non-essential processes? »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/w···ing.html

join:2001-12-19 Ottawa, ON | I did swap router ports when I swapped cables - same problem.
As mentioned I also booted in Safe Mode - so I know it is not an app causing it.
I run AVG and Microsoft Defender - both up to date. Don't think it is malware. |

@comcast.net | reply to zepperdude I have the same problem. I dunno if it's a driver issue. I remember i used to get better speeds. |

Well, you say that the other 2 computers on the network are showing no problem. I'll hope that you tested all computers the same. And, you swapped network components. »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/08/s···ial.html
That points to this computer as the problem. What's different between this computer and the others? •Hardware. Processor version and speed. Network adapter. •Software (known and unknown). •Use patterns. IM, P2P, other Internet activities. »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/b···-in.html -- Cheers, Chuck MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] PChuck's Network |

This might not be anything on your end , this is all really subjective . It could be anywhere on the internet that is causing this between you and wherever you are doing the tests from . If you use a cable modem that is shared facility that is shared with everyone else in your particular neighborhood . Someone on your segment could be doing bandwidth intensive stuff . See what your default gateway is and try doing ping tests to that address and see if it looks reasonable , if so the problem is probably out of your control . |

So an update - using Ixia's Qcheck to test local lan performance.
Computer A - computer with problem Computer B - another machine on LAN
From computer A to computer B - I get 80-90 Mbps. From computer B to computer A - I get 1-2 Mbps.
For some reason computer A is throttling incoming traffic.
Any ideas? |
