| reply to MSeng I like to know if there is another solution to the sound driver signature problem aside from allowing unsigned drivers at boot time. I would rather simple let the thing boot.

1 edit | reply to MSeng well since we do lack some information on what hardware is supported by the vista RC2 except for La Luna. I would recommend that all of us provide feedback on what hardware your using and the issues you encounter.
i will start
AMD AThlon XP 2600+ 1GB Ram Vista RC2
Radeon 9700 Pro - using vista drivers - works
NEC DVD RW - using vista drivers - works
ASUS CD Drive (S520/A4) - using vista drivers - works
Nvidia Nforce2 - using vista drivers - works
Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter(LNE100TX v4) -Not available in Vista's driver database so does not auto install but does work Using windows XP drivers
Hercules DigiFire 7.1 - Does not work! Not available in Vista's driver database so does not auto install and does not work with XP drivers in fact i get blue screen of death.
only one driver issue on a 2+ year old machine not 2 bad.
need for speed carbon - crashes and won't load not even in xp sp2 compability mode but it could be because i have no sound device installed. |

2 edits | reply to MSeng Editions and pricing Windows Vista will ship in six editions.[38] All editions will be available in both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) architectures, except Windows Vista Starter which will only be available for 32-bit architectures. Microsoft maintains a detailed Product Guide that describes the various editions of Windows Vista, including detailed comparison charts of all features.
On September 5, 2006, USD pricing was announced for the four editions they plan on making available through retail channels.[39] New license and upgrade license SKUs of each edition will be made available.
Windows Vista editions and pricing Edition Description Pricing Retail box Upgrade Full Windows Vista Starter Much like Windows XP Starter Edition, this edition will be limited to emerging markets such as India,Russia, Mexico, Brazil, Thailand, and Indonesia, mainly to offer a legal alternative to using unauthorized copies. It will not be available in the United States or Europe.[40] It will have many significant limitations, such as only allowing a user to launch three applications with a user interface at once, not accepting incoming network connections, a physical memory limit of 256 MB, and will run only in 32-bit mode.[41] Additionally, only Duron, Sempron and Geode processors from AMD, and Intel's Celeron and Pentium III processors are supported. No pricing announced No box shot available
Windows Vista Home Basic Similar to Windows XP Home Edition, Home Basic is intended for budget users not requiring advanced media support for home use. The Windows Aero theme with translucent effects will not be included with this edition. Home Basic will support up to 8 GB of physical memory. $99.95 $199.00
Windows Vista Home Premium Containing all features from Home Basic, this edition will additionally support more advanced features aimed for the home market segment, such as HDTV support and DVD authoring. Extra games, mobile and tablet computer support, file system encryption, and a photo management application are also included. This edition is comparable to Windows XP Media Center Edition and Tablet PC Edition. Home Premium will support up to 16 GB of physical memory. $159.00 $239.00
Windows Vista Business Comparable to Windows XP Professional, and aimed at the business market. Does not include the Media Center features of Home Premium, but does include the IIS web server, fax support, offline files, dual (physical) processor support, Remote Desktop, ad-hoc P2P collaboration capabilities, Previous Versions, and support for 128 GB of memory. $199.95 $299.00
Windows Vista Enterprise This edition is aimed at the enterprise segment of the market, and is a superset of the Business edition. Additional features include multilingual user interface support, BitLocker Drive Encryption, and UNIX application support. This edition will not be available through retail or OEM channels, but through Microsoft Software Assurance.[42] Part of Software Assurance enterprise licensing No box shot available
Windows Vista Ultimate This edition combines all the features of the Home Premium and Enterprise editions, and additionally comes with podcast creation support, a game performance tweaker (WinSAT), DVD ripping capabilities, and special online services for downloadable media, as well as additional customer service options. The Ultimate edition is aimed at high-end PC users, gamers, multimedia professionals, and PC enthusiasts. $259.00 $399.00

You should probably ask your question here:

| I was interested in how well games run in vista since alot of the graphics features have been built from the ground up, so I started testing with the "ultimate" version. Heres my specs (not a great comp but ran well enough with XP)
P4 2.8ghz HT 800myz fsb Asus P4c800-e deluxe 1gb 400ghz dual channel 2 x 80gb raid 0 hdd nvidia 6800xt
Vista was really good for automatically finding drivers, however they were poorly written drivers that functioned well within windows itself and not so much in games. I noticed that once I installed the manufactureres drivers for the video card and sound I had less problems. Before I did this there were severe graphics problems, out of sync sound and stuttering occuring. This was reduced after the drivers were installed but not completely. Also my frame rates have dropped by up to 50 frames/sec in some games. (cs:s, hl2, bf2)
On another unlrelated note, torrent speeds for me have gone down the crapper since I started using Vista. I was getting 300-500 kb/s with utorrent with XP and now im getting around 50 kb/s. |

1 edit | I'll help what I can.. Currently testing Vista Ultimate. with XP Corp on Dual boot. For interest I recommend the use of "Keyfinder2.0" for those whom have lost there install KEY or Product number for XP, Office, Vista and others.. It is FREE and works GREAT. In case you need to modify your Vista BCD there are two different packages that work, 1.) EasyBCD 1.5 and 2.) VistaBootPro 3.1.. [BCD is equal to boot.ini on XP] |
