Big sensor in small camera:
The new sigma DP1 compact-digitally camera is equipped with singular, innovative 14 megapixels the FOVEON X3 direct image sensor (2652×1768×3 layers), which is likewise used in that sigma SD14 digital SLR. This sensor takes advantage of the fact that silicon notes red, green and blue light in differently in each case depths, what the complete recording of the color information in each pixel permitted. | Wow this looks pretty interesting. The 17mm lens is an interesting choice.
This would be a fun camera to fool around with.

| Ah you are correct. I didn't realize Sigma had a strange crop factor.
Personally I won't touch any of these new generation cameras until I can get a sensor the size nature intended . 90% of my shots are at 17mm uncropped.
However, this holds great promise for the future. -- My gallery ~ http://winchester.smugmug.com/

| reply to pog Price? This could be a great "digital rangefinder" for the rest of us. It would be great if it came with a choice of 35 and 50 mm equivalent focal lengths. -- My ShutterPoint gallery My ImageEvent galleries |

| reply to pog That is what I was thinking... Great pocket camera with no worries about image quality!! I am kinda anxious to see how this bad boy performs!! I really can't pass judgment on it without using it or atleast having sample images to inspect and mess with
It really seems like Sigma is coming out with some real top notch stuff lately!! Now we know why they have been so quiet on the digital camera market for so long!! They had more then one in the works! Now I am really going crazy waiting for the SD14 details!!! -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted. What is RSD? |

| reply to pog Hmmmmm... the SD14 is sounding real good, lol. I am disappointed over 2 things though!! 1. It appears no mounts except for Sigma's own mount 2. They changed the controls! They switched over to buttons like the Canon Rebel series -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted. What is RSD? |
