[optical] Replacing Dell Drive

A family members DVD drive in there Dell Dimension 4600 is not working anymore. They asked me to replace it, my question is, will any after market drive bought from, say, Newegg fit?? I was thinking along the lines of this drive: »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···27152058 I know some parts for Dell are proprietary so this is why I am wondering.

The LG drive dellmanpro posted is an excellent drive. It's also available in black here:

Both that one or the NEC you post are excellent DVD burners. However the LG does just a bit more like reading and writing DVD-RAM discs.

any drive should fit in the dell as long as it has normal drives, and I believe the 4600 is no diffrent. You will have to attach the easy install rails from the old drive to it, but other than that it's a snap

I have that machine. There are no rails. You do have to remove the front panel though to access the bay. Other than that, there is nothing unusual about the system.
