There are two cables running the utility poles behind my house (aside from the electric); cable, and telephone. I am pretty sure that there is more copper in the 25-pair telephone bundle than in the cable TV run, even if the TV was copper coax, though it appears to be fiber on the pole.

If you read the article again it says they couldn't make a phone call. So they are referring to telephone cabling. |

You're right that there's not much copper in the coax cables, cablcos use copper coated steel and only back to the fiber node. |
