still no word on whether this will resolve any of the periodic evening slow-down issues throughout the system. definitely seems as though CV is going chest to chest with verizons fios by going 30/5

1 edit | Always nice to get something extra at no cost. Will this do anything for download speeds? I really don't upload many files.
This does suggest we have FIOS to thank.
btw... I have never experienced any evening slowdowns or any for that matter since I went to Boost about 4 months ago. Perhaps my node is underutilized or I am just lucky.

See below Im gonna go out on a limb here and post the exact response I had received from Wilt on this several months back when I inquired...
Specifically:
Instrumentation and tool based; the QOS for the modems, Voice services, is derived from Docsis 1.1 and that's currently all the number you're seeing means. BOOST is a separate channel and does run at DOCSIS 2.0 and has a certain set of modems, like the Moto 5120, that are "cleared" for it--in other words, 2.0 capable. Some people are confusing BOOST and the new service level of OOL normal, so that's part of it. Some modems that we didn't "approve" for the 15meg service are actually capable of coming close, running high 13s or low 14s, but close isn't what we specified. If performance of 14meg is good enough and you're happy--the editorial voice here--with the modem then changing for 1 meg or so is up to the user, but as far as specs go, we spec'd modems that would pass 15/2. 1 edit | Re: [OOL] Boost is getting a free boost What's the current upstream channel spacing, symbol rate and modulation? Are they now using a 6MHz upstream channel with 64QAM Modulation? You really need a clean cable system for that. I'm on Comcast and were using a 16QAM 3.2 MHz upstream channel (2.56Msym) for 10.2Mbps per channel. 64QAM is going to have stricter signal level requirements. If your not seeing the 5mbps upload, maybe they have yet to switch the upstream modulation as each plant is certified to run 64QAM.
Congrats to you guys on Optimum On-line Boost! You have it made over there in Cablevision land.

My question is why aren't we seeing higher speeds. I can't get a speed test to go above 2600kbps or so.
I will be trying a multithreaded upload. Lets see if I can saturate 5mb.
Dave
edit: Tried to saturate it with Bittorrent. 2.6mbit or so is the highest I can go. Tried to saturate it with ftp uploads. Same story.
FIOS users get 4500kbps on the 5mbit up tiers.. 2600kbps is not impressive at all for a supposedly 5mbit line.
