| Port Forwarding on 660 fixed.
I have discovered why port forwarding won't work on the 660. The 660 firewall is dropping the packets. Disabling the firewall fixes the problem. I have created a FAQ entry that is just waiting for approval by our friendly MOD. Attached is a screenshot of the settings that need to be made. If someone knows a better way to keep the firewall up and have port forwarding still work please post it here and/or update the FAQ entry. I was having problems with this and from searching the forums I had seen many had this problem and could only fix it by bridging the modem. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter »www.cafepress.com/maxolasersquad »maxolasersquad.com/ »maxolasersquad.com/network/ My DSL Network Guide »myspace.com/mlsquad |

@embarqhsd.net | reply to Maxo I tried fixing these settings but I still don't think it's working right, I still can't use bittorrent or play any mmorpgs. Is there anything else I need to try or do? |

| reply to Maxo When I do the scan thing, it tells me all my ports are filtered and everything is healthy. I used all the tips that were on here for port forwarding, still couldn't get it to work bittorrents still give me an error and mmorpgs still say they cannot connect to server. |

| reply to evilshenzero I just had another thought, make sure your computer is plugged directly into the modem (not routers, etc.) and that your firewall is down. If you have either you will want to remove them and get it working that way. Then when you have it working and you can put the routers and firewalls back in one at a time configuring as you go. |

| reply to Maxo Ihave a 660(bridged) and a 645(routed) ill hook the 645 back up (dont want to foul the 660 ) and see if i can do forwarding with it and see what it takes then may try the 660 after i have a fairly solid idea what it takes... more later -- Life's 3 rules: 1. Stuff happens 2. Stuff happens on a regular basis 3. Better get used to the first two... (not the actual saying but you get the drift) |

| reply to Maxo My situation is that I can get RAdmin to work on the default port 4899. But, I can not access either of the RAdmin server hosting machines via another system outside of my LAN (aka. via the Internet).
I went into the GUI and telnet'ed into the 660r "modem"/router box and did not even see a listing for the Firewall in the menu (any of them, including submenus). The firmware I have is ACZ.1. I did add in the Port Forewarding information.
I've adjusted also the SP2 Firewall(s), Norton Antivirus, RA of course. All to no avail.
If someone has any other ideas I am more than welcome to enterain them. I also could not get MS's Remode Desktop to work outside of the LAN, fwiw.
TIA for any all suggestions, tips, hints, etc. that you all can offer.
My service as home has worked great from day one. (over a year now. The tech was really nice and rewired one of the outlets and checked all of the rest and the NID outside and fixed that too. Very nice guy to talk with). |

join:2005-07-20 Beverly Hills, FL | Yes, that is how it's setup, modem to router then one computer (first laptop) is RJ45 to the router and the other is via a 10/100 Wireless adapter (second laptop).
At my shop it's modem to 10/100 Hub to two Desktops via RJ45. |

| You will also have to setup port forwarding in your router. Initially all incoming requests terminate at the modem. When you forward from the modem to the router they then terminate at the router. When you forward to your computer it will terminate at the computer you specified but a firewall should then block it. You will then have to set the firewall to allow connections on the specific port. It might be easiest to plug said computer directly into the modem and turn of your firewall. Once you got the port forwarded properly through your modem turn your firewall back on and get it to open that port. Then plug router in and get it going through the router. Start at the beginning and work step-by-step to the end. You can use the sites port scan for each step to see if it's open or not from the outside. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter

Thanks for the assistance. |

| reply to Maxo FYI... UPNP doesn't work unless you turn the firewall off as above or set the default policy for WAN -> LAN to Permit.
It's affect by the same thing static port forwarding is. Spent nearly 30 minutes tonight trying to figure out why UPNP could successfully map the ports but no traffic would pass through the little thing! The setting "Allow UPNP to Pass Through Firewall" is misleading... I thought it would permit UPNP but it doesn't unless you change the default policy.

| Yeah, the newest firmware is great in that my modem doesn't reboot 10 times a day. Now they need to rewrite it so that the options do what they say they should do. I liked the 645M better. Port forwarding worked as one would expect it to, and it gave the relative capacity so max synch rates on the line could be calculated. |

| reply to Maxo So, the story is for now to snag a 645M if you can(?)
Thanks for the help, tip.
I switched my business over to this service and had a very unsatisfactory couple of weeks to get things working properly via their tech support. A simple upgrade turned into a real pain. Now we have this situation to contend with. It's hurting my productivity to some degree.
I hope they address this and the other issues in the firmware they are suppose to release soon (as I was told by a technician). |

| reply to Maxo you better provide some information about which versions this "feature" affects, 'cause I don't have the "firewall" menu on my new "small" 660 ("V3.40(ACZ.1) |02/13/2006" firmware, received from Embarq on 2006-07), and neither do my parents have it on their old "big" 660 (received 2006-03).
Moreover, port forwarding works as expected. |
