XP and MSN Messanger

Im running XP and cannot get the MSN Messenger to stop loading on startup. I opened the program and dissabled the option to start when windows does. I also went into msconfig and made sure its not in the startup. But everytime I log off or reboot there it is again. I have also went to the add / remove programs wizard and its not listed anywhere there. Is there another way that I have missed to "kill the messenger"??
Thanks in advance

I'm not at my XP machine right now, but have you checked if it is running as a service?

There is a reg-edit you can use to allow the msn messenger to show up in the add/remove programs in your control panel. However, I am not sure how the mod's here feel about posting "reg-edits or hacks", so if a mod happens to read this and allows it, I will post it for you, or you can just message me on here.

Besides using msconfig and the options in msn messenger, have you tried checking out your start up folder?

go to c:\windows\inf
edit the sysoc.inf file
look for the line starting with msmsgs=msgrocm.dll ....
remove the word "hide" from that line. Leave the comma's
save and exit the file
go to control panel
go to add remove programs
click the add remove windows components icon.
should be one of the last ones listed now.

In Outlook Express, click on Tools, Options, and under the General Tab, uncheck the option for windows messenger to log on automatically

*update*

sorry, that only prevents messenger from logging on..it still opens. I posted this message before I even tried it.

sorry

I read that you can find msmsgs.exe and rename the extension and then you can get rid of it in msconfig and it won't keep coming back. Has anyone tried this?

I don't know what the problem with YOU guys ... but I did it with no problems ... just went into options ... disabled it ... and next time on start-up it was not there
...
are you sure it's not just the ICON in the systray ???
because if it is, it's nothing ... you could just remove it
...
and why would you dislike the MSN messenger ... aside from the problem that not many people use it, it's the best thing ! ... ESPECIALLY the XP version

Yeah Just click Ok after checking the box for Microsoft messenger.

Believe me Boris, I have enough things running on this XP machine and don't need anything else running to add to the list!
