Wait a second...thats not what ol' Bri said.

"the cable-broadband business is intensely rivalrous with DSL"

You mean that Brian Roberts was wrong when he said DSL was no threat to cable? Really? The Hyundai is threatening to undo the Beemer? I thought Comcast had nothing to fear from those silly telcos?

What has this world come to?

Man, what a bunch of double-speaking corporate crap...

Before you break your arm patting yourself on the back,..

there is a big difference between being a threat and being intensely rivalrous, wouldn't you say? I bet you won't though, just to protect the "funny" you made.

I'd say you're more than a little "left" of that sanity.

If you go back and actually read what Brian has said in several speeches to both his stockholders and his cable MSO peers, he clearly is at odds with his "VP and lobbyist David Cohen".

When they're talking to the money, they don't recognize DSL as a 'threat' or even as competition, but when they're trying to convince regulators that there is ample competition to avoid regulation, they are in a deathmatch with telcos.

Now, which one is it?

Better change the "station" there Doc.

Any entity is competition, Comcast just doesn't feel it is big enough to drop their prices. They aren't going to get into a price war with DSL, they are a company, and, wait for it, their main priority as a business is their bottom line. (SHOCK)

Just as is any other business.

I need your address for the lawsuit. I need another keyboard and I can't afford to buy anymore.

Comcast has said, many times, they don't consider DSL a threat mainly because of speed. DSL then dropped prices and many people saw the price difference and went to DSL. While cable internet costs as much as a separate phone line and AOL, DSL can be lower and most of the recent converts are former dial up people who don't do much online except surf and email.

Now, if you look at Comcast's commercials, most are saying how DSL is slow compared to their product. The only mention of price is that the $14.95/month offer is promotional. You don't see much of those anymore because Comcast does the same thing with their $19.95/month promo plan (again, pot meet kettle.)

Comcast doesn't want to drop their prices to milk as much as they can. However, with FIOS and other FTTH projects coming around, they might have to add speed (supposedly a cost) or lower prices to remain competitive.
