| ( TV ) MRDVR is here!! Well I was able to place the order and am waiting for the order to go through. It is $19.95 up from $12.95. They are using the same box that we have now, at first he thought they had to swap the box. There is also a new version on the MediaManager software. As I am typing this they have activated it, I will post again after I play! | |

So it seems the HD non-DVR box is not supported yet.
And it's really annoying that Media Manager is only available if you subscribe to the MRDVR option.

Can you see if they updated your guild build or build type? Are you still running guide build 1.3.09 with type DCT-FE-1.7H, as listed under the menu -> settings -> diagnostics page?
I have to agree that $19.95/mo is disappointing if multiroom functionality was the -only change- added. Tivo charges $12.99/mo and that price includes multiroom functionality and a lot more. IMO, $14.95-16.95/mo would have been more reasonable.

The issue with 2 separate DVR's is you probably get more storage space, but less convenience.

| HEHE...AGAIN....if you only have 160 GB Drive to share for multiple rooms this is a complete waste. I rather pay my $26 and get 320 GB of space. I also think it is a waste if the Hub DVR can only talk to SD STBs and not other DVRS.
Speaking of TIVO, whatever happened to those rumors that Verizon and Tivo were working together? Although they could be just rumors, its almost fun to have wishful thinking.

The box is still on May 18 version 17.10 build. The thing that I am very, very, disappointed in is MediaManager is only supported on the silver 6426 box! I am considering cancelling based on that if they do not plan on supporting MediaManager on the other boxes.

What version is your older box? Do you have a QIP6416 or QIP6416-2?
Obviously, they are constrained by the processor and memory of the boxes. Some older models simply may not have the processor and memory capacity to support the new software.

OK after CSR checked with her manager IT IS a software push. also told me to go to www.verizon.com/mediamanager to up date the Media Manager software. I do agree with Nezmo and Shaggy the cost and lack of drive space is disappointing.

Did you expect someting different. There are no consumer boxes out there capable of converting HD content to SD resolutions on the fly. There are expensive boxes out there that cost thousands that do it but they're for those who are really anal about their video content.
I dont know why they're not allowing HD to go from the STB to a HD STB or from DVR to DVR. I'm guessing Moca is not all it's cracked up to be. -- FIOS chat »www.fioschat.com MacChatter »www.macchatter.com

The SD boxes can't display HD channels now and there's no way for software to change that.

| The QIP6416-1 converts HD content to SD on the fly! Also I went to cancel the service and they were surprised that I wanted to cancel already! After another 45 minute call they said they are working on more features such as the 2500 being able to use MediaManager! They finally admitted they were at least working on it after I said that both my 2500 boxes have said coming soon for the past 4 months. It appears that this is kind of a limited feature release, and are seeing how this goes before adding more. This is okay with me just as long as I know that down the road the 2500 will be able to use MediaManager. | |

Granted, I'm talking about analog output. But since there are also devices that can encode analog SD video to MPEG-2 on the fly (like a standalone Tivo), it would be quite easy to put the two together, and get a real-time HD->SD transcoder.
In fact, you can build an HD->SD MRV system yourself: cable box -> Tivo -> Ethernet -> Tivo.

It doesn't convert the original signal. It reduces the resolution inside its MP@HL HD digital video processor for output via s-video. This occurs at the last possible second in the chain, just before it is output to TV.
The original MPEG-2 program stream, whether it is SD or HD, is the only thing stored as a "file" on the box, and that "file" is the only thing the box or any other can stream via networking. The SD boxes don't have the HD video decoders and memory necessary to play back HD program files. The SD boxes can only play SD MPEG-2 files, and the DVR has no way to convert the HD MPEG-2 files stored on the hard drive into SD MPEG-2 files for transfer.
To think of it another way. You have two computers, a new 3.0GHZ PC and an old 200MHz PC. With the 3.0GHz PC, you can play a 1080p movie file from the Apple Quicktime site. It takes about the same processing power whether you play it full-screen on a 24" monitor or in a small window on a 14" monitor. However, you can't watch that 1080p movie file on the 200MHz PC in any usable form no matter how small you resize it with your mouse.

In trials, MoCA has been found capable of 100Mbps, so it has more than sufficient capacity to support it.
Whether some of the older routers can handle the HD video streaming, I do not know. Certainly, the Actiontec router was designed with this in mind.

The router doesn't enter into the equation for MRDVR since the data is contained entirely on the coax. The router performance could impact HD VOD, but that is a different issue.
A much more likely limiting factor is the hard drive performance in the DVR. In the worst case scenario (well, at least worst case until PIP is enabled) you could be trying to simultaneously record two HD programs and watch two HD recordings, one locally and the other on a slave box. This means that the hard drive needs to support random access to four HD MPEG2 streams simultaneously. This may be quite a challenge.

| I called to upgrade my service as soon as I saw this thread. FIOS customer service knew what I wanted and took care of it. There was only a slight delay (couple of minutes) while she verified something, but I don't know what the issue was. Service was enabled by the time I hung up the phone. She mentioned the Media Manager, but I said I had already found it and downloaded it.
I have 6416-2 (HD-DVR) and 2500-2 (SD) STB's. I verified that I could use the 2500 to play an SD program recorded on the 6416. I don't have any recorded HD content at the moment, but know that it's not supported. However, I'm curious if the 2500 would display the HD entry, but flag it as "unavailable".
Next, I installed Media Manager. I had to delete the extra folders it made of images that it found in my browser cache. Displayed a few images and confirmed that it worked.
I tried to add a (stereo, 44kbps) WAV file to the music library and play it on the 6416 -- horrible skipping occurred. Converted WAV to MP3 at relatively high variable bit rate, and now it plays normally.
The Media Manager is interesting, but I would like to use it to play WMV's or some other video format. The ability to play recorded program from the 6416 on the 2500 is what i really wanted.
