[BETA] Gmail: i think i have solved why Gmail is so slow!!!

For the last few months, Gmail has been slow or not nearly as fast as before for me on all of the machines and different ISPs that i'm on.

Last nite i think i have finally solved why!!!

IT's that dreaded integrated Google Chat!! I disabled it and now it's blazing fast!!!

Just to let you guys know, one can disable the chat by clicking on "Standard without Chat" link towards the bottom of the Gmail screen like i attached here.

I did not have this problem with the Google chat. I'm thinking maybe it's because I also have the Google IM client installed.

my friend didn't have this problem as well but he's got only like less than 10 contacts on his Gchat.

I have over 60 contacts and that might be the main reason why Gmail is so slow.

It's been super fast for me going on the 4th day after i disabled it!!

Dreaded? I think Google Chat is pretty cool, but you have a point.. if it really makes that big a difference in UI speed in GMail, it shouldn't be enabled by default.

I never noticed a speed issue, maybe because I use broadband.

But for the life of me, I could not figure out how to get rid of that stupid chat thing.

Thanks!
