is there a "proper" way to remove an ide cable?
I try pulling at the ends and kind of rocking it, but its stuck in there pretty good. |

Woodridge, IL | you should try to apply equal pressure through the width of the cable, and yes, some do require a bit of pulling. also, remember to pull straight back, that way you aren't fighting the connection in any way. |

Good advice. I use my thumb and index finger and grasp the ribbon right against the connector and pull straight out. I've never broken a cable doing it this way. Many of the newer IDE ribbon cables have pull tabs at the connector, which make things a bit easier.
