| 2 gig RAM sticks @800-Available yet?
Well, what with Vista on the horizon and the fact that it likes memory more than XP, and that I use Linux which will always make full use of whatever RAM I give it, I am just wondering, since the new mo'board chipsets are going to be supporting 8 gigs of RAM, will RAM makers be putting out 2 gig RAM sticks soon?
I imagine 4 gig of RAM might be adequate for Vista, but what if it can use more with certain apps? -- Let's be nice to each other, k? Life's too short. |

| I don't know, Vista really changes the playing field. I only have 512 k and Vista runs "ok" but it sucks it down like a thirsty sailor. I bet Vista will make good use of even 4 gigs... -- Let's be nice to each other, k? Life's too short. |

| reply to signmeuptoo IMO 2GB would be plenty of RAM for the majority of people using Vista initially. What's really going to use up RAM would be third party applications and not the OS itself. So probably as time goes on more RAM will be necessary, but in early on 4GB will probably be a bit overkill. Plus remember that early revisions of the Athlon64 don't handle 4GB of RAM all that gracefully, and will actually result in a decrease in performance rather than increase it. |

@swbell.net | reply to signmeuptoo I agree with decx. I have Vista beta installed on one of my partitions, and it runs very smoothly with my 2 gigs of RAM. |

| reply to signmeuptoo It will largely depend on if they can get decent latency from such a large dimm and get them in high enough quantities and be able to make them for a good price. If they were able to make them now I bet they would be significantly more expensive than the largest PC800 DDR2... |

1 edit | reply to signmeuptoo Well, I just found this sole listing from pricewatch:
Froogle had NO listings and I don't know of any other search tools for computer components.
Edit: And they don't sound like a good dealer:
