9.99 to OWN is what he's talking about. Renting would obviously be cheaper cause who would pay 10 bucks to rent a downloaded movie. I'd say the success will be based on the quality of the movies. If they're the iPod resolution of 320x240 then I can't see a lot of people buying them. TV shows can get away with this quality because they're usually not "action" like a lot of movies are. You want a large screen for a movie but not necessarily a TV show. |

You can buy movies on DVD from $9, let alone that Netflix starts at $6/mo.
They have to price it at $2 or less otherwise it won't fly. |

The movie studios are idiots.
The iTunes music store thrives even though many, many people still steal music. By giving consumers an option of buying movies online they are basically getting "Free" money that would normally be lost.
While I'm sure many here prefer piracy, there are always people that want to be legit, and currently no one wants to sell downloads to them.
If this rumor is true, I would have to imagine the other announcement is an iPod designed for movie viewing...

(BTW it'd be more than funny if somebody would proudly claim Apple did something first on OS X only.  )
Besides that a single-digit market force like OS X doesn't really convince anybody to develop something specific for them - because the fact of the matter is Apple decided not to develop anything that would play WMV, only MS had put out some shitty-buggy beta for a while...
Talk about showing sheer ignorance... 
PS: WMV and WMVHD or VC-1 is far superior to anything Apple was able to come up - same or better quality with lower hw requirements, you know... |

Not really they figure people are ignorant to buy a iPod and pay 99 cents per song when there's other cheaper LEGAL music downloading company's out there, Then there ignorant enough to spend 10 bucks to say "Hey check this out I'm cool now with a rented IPod movie on my IPod video"
If there's enough stupid people buying this to make a profit then they win and I'm pretty damn sure they will clean up on it. But hey there apple I guess that makes there business practice better then microsoft cause there the little guy but they do the same things. |
