| [General] The new PAP2 v2.0
I just bought a vonage pap2, took it home to unlock it and to my suprise, it is a new device. Best Buy has these for $59 and gives you a $50 Gift Card in return - so I bought a few and I just got back from BestBuy and here is my experience.
I got one off the shelf and went to the register. It rang up as $59.99 and tax brought it up to $64.64. They asked for my phone number, which is in the system because they want your info. Then they gave me a $50 Gift Card and I walked out the door. I came back in and got another and applied my GC for a total of $14.64 and got another GC. I did this a few more times and now I have 4 and a spare $50 GC. I used my old phone number twice and my new phone number twice (since both are in the system) and didn't have a problem using the phone number multiple times.
All four of mine are using a different serial number scheme than the last set of PAP2s I've bought. These serials are CH911F50xxxx whereas the others were FH900Exxxxxx or FH900Fxxxxxx.
These also say they are V2.0. After opening it up, I no longer see the ESS chip processing this thing, it is a TI TNETV1015ZDW. It also doesn't have the MX29LV081 holding the programming, it now has a Spansion 29GL064M90TA (IR4)(TSOP 48). It also has a pre-populated serial connector and a JTAG interface but I don't know if either are operational.
The other interesting thing is it has a reset button!! I am guessing, and this is only a guess, that it is the PAP2T branded to Vonage. I unpacked the device and there was a sticker over the ports saying only to use the enclosed power adapter. I looked at the label and it is marked for the RTP300, WRTP54G and PAP2 V2.0. This made me curious. After turning it on and finding the IP via my router, I went to the login and it looked the same as the RTP300 (I don't have a WRTP54G) and I used the admin/admin and lo and behold, it worked and is using the same WEBCM and java progress bar as the RTP300. The firmware version is 1.00.13. So after seeing all this, I know this won't unlock the same as the other PAP2s. It's a different unit entirely, from the hardware to the firmware. This it might be unlocked the same as the RTP300/WRTP54G using the java exploit.
The Von@ge box is just like the old unless you look at the white label where it says the model no. It will say "PAP2 v2.0" and the serial will be in this new series. There is no reference to a PAP2T, but my guess this is one branded to Vonage, again - just my guess.
I don't have a camera right now, but I've dealt with most of the Linksys/Sipura products, and this is a totally new design!
I just did a ROM dump on this and it is 4Megs, unlike the other PAP2s that are 1Meg. It also is in the same ROM layout as the RTP300 and also uses LZMA compression.
The screws to open this are no longer a phillips screw driver, but a T9 security torx.
You can also download the firmware update at: "http://HTTPCONFIG.Vonage.NET/pt-11.4.0-r060426-1.00.13-r060426.img"
I should have more info in the coming days.... |

| reply to meister_sd I actually heard that PAP2T is not as nice device as PAP2.
I already know 2-3 different people who are having some kind weird problems with their PAP2T. I haven't tested it myself. So, I can't be certain.
Meister_sd, your findings are very interested. -- SUKRU BEY, a Linksys PAP2 user |

If Linksys decides not to GPL the PAP2T firmware which derives from a GPL source code and DLink decides to, then perhaps we can start hacking the Linksys PAP2T firmware headers and use the DLink firmware source to package a new firmware for PAP2T with everything is unlocked! -- Mazi (UK Non-Geo Phone: +44-703-194-2574) |

| reply to meister_sd I just picked up a pap2 from bestbuy and I can tell you... it was $59.00 with a $50 gift card given to me at the register.. (NH prices)
Sadly, they did not have the v2.0 unit. I may go check another bestbuy store.
I asked about using the gift card right then, and I was told that it takes 24 hours for the gift card to work. Is this true? |

| You can use the GC immediately but not on the same transaction/receipt i.e you can use the GC to buy 2nd PAP2 but not on the 1st pap2 itself. my BB also didn't had the v2.0 unit. Will try later in the week, hope they get the newer version by then. |

(NH prices) That's what I had seen today when I visited two BB stores here in N.E. Atlanta, GA. The clerck told me it is $59.99 with $50 GC but I didn't buy it because it wasn't PAP2 V2.
I asked about using the gift card right then, and I was told that it takes 24 hours for the gift card to work. Is this true? According to Meister_SD, he was able to chain the purchases. I also asked the clerk in two different BB stores and they both told me it is doable to chain the purchase through the GC. There may be a problem if you plan to return the first one using the last GC unless the receipt doesn't show the serial# of the GC. -- Mazi (UK Non-Geo Phone: +44-703-194-2574) |

| reply to meister_sd I must be missing something. Why do you want a 2.0 as it doesn't seem to be unlockable yet? Are non 2.0 (i.e. old stock) no longer hackable now (I must be away since I haven't heard of the changes)? Even if so, why desire 2.0? Sorry, I think I'm not understanding. |

| said by fortissimo :I must be missing something. No, you're not. It's just a new technology to try to hack and to see if it is better than the last.
I unlocked mine by dumping the chip and the screens are just like the RTP300. I don't like it. I returned the other three for the older pap2's but kept the one for the heck of it.
The device also doesn't have STUN.
More to follow tomorrow. |
