Well, my four-wheeler finally self destructed a month and a half ago (ATV for you yankees). After a scouting trip in the deer woods, it was ticking pretty bad. A few doughnuts, in the front yard, after I got it home, was it's final demise. It seems that my lack of attention to a loose timing chain finally did it in. Apparently a cam chain tensioner can only take up so much slack before the chain goes AWOL and causes some pretty serious internal problems.
Back up to three years ago. My 750 Seca and myself were removed from the public thoroughfare with the help of a mini-van. The Astrovan had crossed a double yellow and contacted the front of my motorcycle, ultimately ending in a bent frame, an immobile eatatjoz , and a stationary twenty year old motorcycle.
Three weeks ago, I was outside sipping on a few Fosters, and looking at these two formally mobile objects that were sitting in my barn. Both drive shafts are on the left side... All usable parts are intact..., and most importantly, like all things that I own, the warranty is up on both vehicles. The only solution, it seemed, was to combine them. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him... "Better, stronger, faster."
And so, Today Was the first test ride of my new deer hunting/tire smoking/asphalt eating death dealer. It's a '90 Kawasaki Bayou 300 4x4. The power is provided by a '82 Yamaha Seca XJ750R. I figure I'm putting out about 80hp at the crank . Dynojet stage II, Vance & Hines 4-2-1 bastard child, pod filters, and a Barnett clutch. I was told that the 750 had a Weisco 810 big bore kit as well, but I haven't confirmed that. (I didn't want to crack the case open). It took me about a hundred bucks in broken parts, a pound of 6011 welding rods, and a few hours Fosters and Miller Lite each night for three weeks. The result is what you see above (and a pissed off wife), the perfect reasons for life insurance. This thing is a blast! Just what a four-wheeler should be. It will absolutely ROAST the tires. Is there a smiley to represent an ear to ear grin? ) |

| That engine hardly looks out of place in there ! Have you already moved the tires from rear to front ?? Not much tread on the fronts in that picture...
I think this is the smiley you want, too: |

 300 engine | 750 engine |
The front tires were already worn out. The rears will be soon
The deminsions of the two motors were actually pretty close. It's just three pistons wider. |

Post as many pics as you dare, I will eat them all up!

How does it drive? Is the gearing ok, or possibly a little tall? -- The alphabet is my favourite group of letters in the whole world.

| The gearing is pretty close to where it should be. It seems to get a little frisky around 50-60 mph. That's the point that the front end starts to get "light" and the ass end tries to pass the front. Don't get me wrong, If you get into it pretty aggresivly on take off, the rear end will pass the front in a heartbeat. My first pass in the driveway left 30ft. of 10" posi-track evidence with very little effort.
I'll try to post more pics and maybe video tommorrow. It's hard to explain this thing's power without riding it, but a video may help quite a bit. |

| reply to eatatjoz Arki? I don't mind being called a redneck
The wife didn't want to be involved in my percieved accidential dismemberment, and so I had to use a crappy web-cam for filming. (sorry about the quality). I've also been told that I will be power-washing the driveway now. |

I love the 11" tire donations.. sounds like you`ll be needing a new set verrrry soon. might be time to invest in a helmet lol

I love the noises that thing makes... can you spin all 4 wheels at once on the pavement? your wife is a very lucky woman -- Ever been to Utah? Ra-di-a-tion. Yes, indeed. You hear the most outrageous lies about it. Half-baked goggle-box do-gooders telling everybody it's bad for you. Pernicious nonsense. |

| reply to eatatjoz Dude, that kicks ASS! I give you a lot of credit. I've seen many conversions over the years, but never one with a shaft driven machine. I've seen a few trikes and quads with street bike engines, but all have been chain driven.
Major thumbs up for doing it with a shaft driven machine.
Random note: Yamaha uses the same output shaft setup on it's streetbikes as it does on it's quads. My 2003 Wolverine has a really similar setup. I just replaced that seal a few weeks ago. -- The BlueRibbon Coalition: Protecting the off-road community www.northeastatvers.com www.vwenthusiast.com |

| reply to eatatjoz Thanks all,
The thing is hella fun on the street and in the dirt. My driveway/runway doesn't have enough room to really light it up safely.
BTW: it's only 2wd now. I couldn't stuff a transfer case in the frame unless I streched it another four inches, so I took the easy way out. |
