If you can get 5 times faster for $5 or $10 a month more, go for it. Cable is billing itself as a "deluxe" service, and overall prices itself accordingly. The bells are working on entry level broadband converts while they build a fiber network to compete. If you think that the telcos are forcing 768 DSL on people who would rather have 15mb, you must not be watching the ads touting "My DSL is so much faster than dial-up."

Many people want the price AND the speed. Until you do a scientific survey or study, you are not qualified to make such a statement. Hell, you only have to go as far as BBR here to see that people believe that 15mb or 30mb speeds should be priced at about $20.
